Review Implementing Data Mining Algorithms In Microsoft SQL Server (Advances in Management Information) / WIT Press (UK):Data mining technology is growing rapidly and, in many industries, has become commonplace. The main reasons for this are advances in computer technology that acquire, store and retrieve enormous amounts of data about everything from everywhere. In 2000, Microsoft introduced a data mining feature in their Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Analysis Services. This book covers all the practicalities required to integrate a third-party data mining algorithm into SQL Server 2000. This book is designed for use by data mining researchers and information technology workers. It will also be an ideal text for IT master and doctorate courses.

Review Cognitive Aspects of Visual Languages and Visual Interfaces (Human Factors in Information Technology) (Human Factors in Information Technology) / North Holland:This volume contains selected papers from the 10th Interdisciplinary Workshop in Informatics and Psychology which had as its theme Cognitive Aspects in Visual Languages and Interfaces. Visual languages in general, visual programming languages in particular, and graphical or visual user interfaces are increasingly regarded as important improvements for the interaction between people and artifacts. Visual and graphical user interfaces have already a history of a number of years in terms of research and development. The focus on visual languages and visual programming languages, however, is more recent. The development of graphical user interfaces was accompanied and reinforced by psychological research but visual languages are still mainly inventions of designers and not designed on the basis of principles derived also from knowledge of psychology or other behavioral sciences. The presentations and discussions at the workshop showed increasing interest in paradigms of visual languages and their psychological foundation. Visual languages and interfaces must be seen as means to support and enhance represention, application and processing knowledge visually. The study of the cognitive aspects in visual languages and interfaces is thus an important part of Human-Computer Interaction as a discipline concerned with the design, evaluation and implementation of interactive computer systems for human use and with the study of major phenomena surrounding them (definition of HCI in the ACM SIGCHI Curricula for Human-Computer Interaction). This book will stimulate future research in the area of Human-Computer Interaction and Visual Languages.

Review The Limits of Trust:Cryptography, Governments, and Electronic Commerce / Kluwer Law International:For the first time in history, everyone - Third World freedom fighters to urban drug dealers - can communicate in secrecy via unbreakable codes made available by advances in cryptography and computer technology. As the welcome and unwelcome consequences of this new technology begin to dawn on governments worldwide, responses have varied from stringent regulation to laissez faire liberalism. Written by a former General Counsel of the National Security Agency and an expert in cryptography law, this text explores the policy and legal issues raised by the democratization of cryptography and offers a guide to the ways in which the law of cryptography translates issues of trust into standards for lawful conduct. The book addresses the international regulation of cryptography and digital signatures both in terms of confidentiality (cryptography used to keep secrets) and authentication (cryptography used to verify information). Coverage includes: a description of over 45 countries' policies and laws on cryptography import, export, and domestic controls and digital signature initiatives worldwide; a concise history of the cryptography debate in the United States from its beginnings after World War II to the recent debates over the Clipper Chip and key recovery encryption; and a presentation of the efforts of the United States government (and others) to build a new national consensus on regulation of encryption.
