Review Intelligence in Networking / Springer:Intelligence in Networks is a concept, the meaning of which is highly related to the time-period when it is used. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, it was mainly related to the teleservice repertoire `an sich'. In the 1990s, it is more related to efficient flexibility in the introduction of new teleservices and teleservice repertoire. This state-of-the-art text sets out to identify and study issues related to solutions for increasing intelligence in networks. As examples, intelligence networks (IN), telecommunication information networking architecture (TINA) and mobile agents and active networks are different solutions for improving the grade of network intelligence. The areas under discussion include research and development within various closely related fields such as: Teleservices, service architecture and service creation; Middleware and specification languages; Mobile agents, active networks, plug-and-play issues; and Quality of service and performance. £/LIST£ Intelligence in Networks contains the proceedings of SMARTNET'99, the fifth in a series of conferences on intelligence in networks sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), at the Asian Institute of Technology, Pathumthani, Thailand in November 1999.

Review ISO 19125-2:2004, Geographic information - Simple feature access - Part 2: SQL option / Multiple. Distributed through American National Standards Institute (ANSI):This part of ISO 19125:2004 specifies an SQL schema that supports storage, retrieval, query and update of simple geospatial feature collections via the SQL Call Level Interface (SQL/CLI) and establishes an architecture for the implementation of feature tables. This part of ISO 19125:2004 defines terms to use within the architecture. of geographic information and defines a simple feature profile of ISO 19107. In addition, this part of ISO 19125:2004 describes a set of SQL Geometry Types together with SQL functions on those types. The Geometry Types and Functions described represent a profile of ISO 13249-3. This part of ISO 19125:2004 standardizes the names and geometric definitions of the SQL Types for Geometry and the names, signatures and geometric definitions of the SQL Functions for Geometry. This part of ISO 19125:2004 does not attempt to standardize and does not depend upon any part of the mechanism by which Types are added and maintained in the SQL environment, including the following:the syntax and functionality provided for defining types; the syntax and functionality provided for defining SQL functions; the physical storage of type instances in the database; specific terminology used to refer to User Defined Types, for example, UDT.

Review Constructing the User Interface with Statecharts / Addison-Wesley Professional:Behind most non-trivial user interface screens lie complex webs of code that many practitioners in the software industry find difficult to control. Despite the obvious power and sophistication of user interface development tools, the majority of user interface software is difficult to understand because it is coded without an overall design. In this book, Ian Horrocks presents a proven technique for designing event-driven software using the UCM architecture and the statechart notation. The statechart approach to constructing user interface software results in code that can be: * written quickly and easily, * tested using white box techniques, * repeatedly enhanced over the lifetime of a system, * modified with a minimal risk of introducing unwanted side-effects, * regression tested without the need for full re-tests. This book provides a practical guide to constructing real user interfaces for real projects. It is primarily written for practising software engineers, but will also be invaluable to students wishing to gain an insight into user interface construction.

Review Epipolar Geometry in Stereo, Motion and Object Recognition: A Unified Approach (Computational Imaging and Vision) / Springer:This book deals with one of the oldest problems in Computer Vision, namely to recover the 3-D geometric and kinematic structures of the world from two images, and to recognise a 3-D object in a cluttered scene from one or several views of this object in a different setting. Several different problems have been unified through the use of a unique geometric concept. On the one hand, the geometrical point of view naturally leads to the consideration of the projective geometric structure which relates two images of the same object, the epipolar structure. On the other hand, the practitioner's point of view allows the reduction of the difficult 2-D search tasks encountered in the fundamental problems to much simpler 1-D search tasks, and, for the theoretically inclined reader, it ties the projective, affine and Euclidean structures of the scene to those of the images. Audience: The authors have managed to avoid projective geometry in their exposition, and to guide the reader through the various aspects of epipolar geometry, stereo vision, motion analysis and object recognition using only the standard tools of linear algebra, thus making this a valuable book for a wide audience of researchers and engineers in image-related fields like vision, image processing, computer graphics, robotics, multi-media, and virtual reality.
