Review Handbook of Defeasible Reasoning and Uncertainty Management Systems: Volume 6: Dynamics and Management of Reasoning Processes (Handbook of Defeasible Reasoning and Uncertainty Management Systems) / Springer:

This volume is focused on the dynamics of reasoning processes. It covers both the topics of 'Dynamics of Reasoning', where reasoning is viewed as a process, and 'Reasoning about Dynamics', which must be understood as pertaining to how both designers of, and agents within dynamic systems may reason about these systems. In this volume real-life applications of the modelling techniques are also considered, as the research during the DRUMS (Defeasible Reasoning and Uncertainty Management Systems) project was aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice. In order to give the book a broader perspective, a number of well-known researchers outside the project but working on similar topics, have been invited to contribute as well.

Review Expert Systems: The Technology of Knowledge Management for the 21st Century Six Volume Set / Academic Press:

This six-volume set presents cutting-edge advances and applications of expert systems. Because expert systems combine the expertise of engineers, computer scientists, and computer programmers, each group will benefit from buying this important reference work. An "expert system" is a knowledge-based computer system that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert. The primary role of the expert system is to perform appropriate functions under the close supervision of the human, whose work is supported by that expert system. In the reverse, this same expert system can monitor and double check the human in the performance of a task. Human-computer interaction in our highly complex world requires the development of a wide array of expert systems. Key Features* Expert systems techniques and applications are presented for a diverse array of topics including:* Experimental design and decision support* The integration of machine learning with knowledge acquisition for the design of expert systems* Process planning in design and manufacturing systems and process control applications* Knowledge discovery in large-scale knowledge bases* Robotic systems * Geograhphic information systems* Image analysis, recognition and interpretation* Cellular automata methods for pattern recognition* Real-time fault tolerant control systems* CAD-based vision systems in pattern matching processes* Financial systems* Agricultural applications* Medical diagnosis.

Review Automatic Speech and Speaker Recognition: Advanced Topics (The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science) / Springer:

Research in the field of automatic speech and speaker recognition has made a number of significant advances in the last two decades, influenced by advances in signal processing, algorithms, architectures, and hardware. These advances include: the adoption of a statistical pattern recognition paradigm; the use of the hidden Markov modeling framework to characterize both the spectral and the temporal variations in the speech signal; the use of a large set of speech utterance examples from a large population of speakers to train the hidden Markov models of some fundamental speech units; the organization of speech and language knowledge sources into a structural finite state network; and the use of dynamic, programming based heuristic search methods to find the best word sequence in the lexical network corresponding to the spoken utterance. Automatic Speech and Speaker Recognition: Advanced Topics groups together in a single volume a number of important topics on speech and speaker recognition, topics which are of fundamental importance, but not yet covered in detail in existing textbooks. Although no explicit partition is given, the book is divided into five parts: Chapters 1-2 are devoted to technology overviews; Chapters 3-12 discuss acoustic modeling of fundamental speech units and lexical modeling of words and pronunciations; Chapters 13-15 address the issues related to flexibility and robustness; Chapter 16-18 concern the theoretical and practical issues of search; Chapters 19-20 give two examples of algorithm and implementational aspects for recognition system realization. Audience: A reference book for speech researchers and graduate students interested in pursuing potential research on the topic. May also be used as a text for advanced courses on the subject.
