Review Trends In Ovarian Cancer Research (Horizons in Cancer Research) / Nova Science Publishers:Ovarian cancer is cancer that begins in the cells that constitute the ovaries, including surface epithelial cells, germ cells, and the sex cord-stromal cells. Cancer cells that metastasize from other organ sites to the ovary (most commonly breast or colon cancers) are not then considered ovarian cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer accounts for 4 percent of all cancers among women and ranks fifth as a cause of their deaths from cancer. The American Cancer Society statistics for ovarian cancer estimate that there will be 25,400 new cases and 14,300 deaths in 2003. The death rate for this disease has not changed much in the last 50 years. Unfortunately, almost 70 percent of women with the common epithelial ovarian cancer are not diagnosed until the disease is advanced in stage - i. e. , has spread to the upper abdomen (stage III) or beyond (stage IV). Review Using the Non Depolarizing Neuromuscular Blocking Agent Vecuronium in Patients with Liver Dysfunction: Muscle Relaxants and Liver Dysfunction / VDM Verlag:The main rout of excretion of the aminosteroid non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking drug vecuronium bromide is through hepatic metabolism. Using the Relaxometer mechanomyograph we assessed the effect of various grades of liver dysfunction on vecuronium bromide pharmacodynamics in 21 patients with mild liver dysfunction and 4 patients with severe liver dysfunction compared with 20 subjects with normal liver function. There was no significant difference in the intubation score or onset time (time from the beginning of vecuronium administration till maximal neuromuscular block) between patients with or without liver dysfunction. The Clinical Duration (time from the beginning of vecuronium administration till 25% first twitch T1 recovery), Recovery Index (time from 25% to 75% T1 recovery), as well as the End Stage Time (time from the beginning of vecuronium administration till 0. 7 Train-of-four TOF ratio recovery) were all statistically significantly prolonged in the Mild and Severe Liver dysfunction groups compared with the control group. We concluded that liver dysfunction exponentially prolongs the pharmacodynamic effects of the non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking drug vecuronium bromide that is mainly excreted through hepatic metabolism.

The macula is an integral piece of the retina; we use it for our most acute and detailed vision - reading, driving, watching television, precise work, and recognising faces. Macular degeneration generally takes place over a gradual period and at different rates in each eye. Its causes are still unclear, but we do know of two types.
