Review Intermediate Energy Nuclear Data: Models and Codes : Proceedings of a Specialists' Meeting Issy-Les-Moulineaux (France 30 May-1 June 1994) / Organization for Economic:

The NEA Nuclear Science Committee recently organized an exercise on an intercomparison of codes and models used to calculate nuclear reaction processes from 20 to 1600 Mev. This study was initiated to help determine the predictive ability of current nuclear reaction and transport codes for future design concepts for transmutation as well as for other application areas - radiation, oncology, accelerator shielding, astrophysics, radiation during space travel, etc. As a follow-up to that exercise, a specialists' meeting was organized to discuss the results of the two benchmark exercises organized by the NEA. The first one was on microscopic nuclear reaction calculations (thin target) and the results were published prior to that meeting (International Code Comparison for Intermediate Energy Nuclear Data). The second exercise, on transport calculations (thick target) is still in progress.

Review Pennwell Pub / Load Shape Development Publication date: 1997-01-01
Dewey code: 621.31
List Price: $34.50

Review Load Shape Development / Pennwell Pub:

'Load Shapes' - graphic depicitations of energy use - can be extrapolated to predict customer need and so assist in utility planning and forecasting. Load shape data provides power suppliers with an informed understanding of energy use at various times of a cycle (day, week, season or year), weather its focus is a single appliance or facility, or a large customer group. In Load Shape Development', Derek W. Schrock demonstrates how this tool is used in load forecasting, demand-side management planning and evaluation, and integrated resource planning. His non-technical text walks you through terminology, sample design techniques, overviews of metering and data collection and entry, plus design and analysis tools. This is an essential reference for electric and natural gas utilities, consulting firms, public utility commissions, and environmental groups, as well as federal, state and local agencies.

Review Mathematics for Circuits and Filters / CRC:

Every engineering professional needs a practical, convenient mathematics resource, without extensive theory and proofs. Mathematics for Circuits and Filters stresses the fundamental theory behind professional applications, making an excellent, flexible resource that enables easy access to the information needed to deal with circuits and filters. The sections feature frequent examples and illustrations, reinforcing the basic theory. The examples also demonstrate applications of the concepts. References at the end of each section are drawn from not only traditional sources, but from relevant, nontraditional ones as well, including software, databases, standards, seminars, and conferences. This leads advanced researchers quickly to the data they may need for more specialized problems. An international panel of experts developed the chapters for practicing engineers, concentrating on the problems that they encounter the most and have the most difficulty with. Mathematics for Circuits and Filters aids in the engineer's understanding and recall of vital mathematical concepts and acts as the engineer's primary resource when looking for solutions to a wide range of problems.

Review Electromechanical Systems, Electric Machines, and Applied Mechatronics (Electric Power Engineering Series) / CRC:

Recent trends in engineering show increased emphasis on integrated analysis, design, and control of advanced electromechanical systems, and their scope continues to expand. Mechatronics-a breakthrough concept-has evolved to attack, integrate, and solve a variety of emerging problems in engineering, and there appears to be no end to its application. It has become essential for all engineers to understand its basic theoretical standpoints and practical applications. Electromechanical Systems, Electric Machines, and Applied Mechatronics presents a unique combination of traditional engineering topics and the latest technologies, integrated to stimulate new advances in the analysis and design of state-of-the-art electromechanical systems. With a focus on numerical and analytical methods, the author develops the rigorous theory of electromechanical systems and helps build problem-solving skills. He also stresses simulation as a critical aspect of developing and prototyping advanced systems. He uses the MATLAB™ environment for his examples and includes a MATLAB™ diskette with the book, thus providing a solid introduction to this standard engineering tool. Readable, interesting, and accessible, Electromechanical Systems, Electric Machines, and Applied Mechatronics develops a thorough understanding of the integrated perspectives in the design and analysis of electromechanical systems. It covers the basic concepts in mechatronics, and with numerous worked examples, prepares the reader to use the results in engineering practice. Readers who master this book will know what they are doing, why they are doing it, and how to do it.

Review A First Course on Electrical Drives / John Wiley & Sons Inc:

This introduction to electrical drives deals with aspects of both DC and AC motors, the dynamics of the drive system, inherent steady state characteristics of DC and AC motors, and the varieties of methods used to modify these characteristics to suit specific requirements. The author discusses the most important transient processes: starting and braking and different methods used to estimate the rating of motors subjected to different load cycles. One chapter is devoted to the increasingly popular thyristor controlled drive. Solved and unsolved problems are provided to illustrate the concepts presented.
