Review Expert Drug Therapy Video Series (Expert Drug Therapy Videos) / Delmar Learning:

This video series uses realistic patient care scenarios and dramatic, full-color animation sequences to bring drug therapy to life with unparalleled impact and immediacy. Unlike any other drug resource on the market, the Expert Drug Therapy videos actually demonstrate how a drug works inside the body to produce its therapeutic effects. You'll see how specific drugs halt or reverse a disease process and what adverse reactions they may cause. And you'll learn what implications these effects have for your nursing care before, during, and after drug administration. Each 30-minute video focuses on drug therapy for a specific disorder, such as hypertension or myocardial infarction (MI). By deepening your understanding of drug therapy as it pertains to specific disorders, the Expert Drug Therapy series will help you provide your patients with the safe, expert care you want to give.

Review Manual of Allergy and Immunology / Lippincott Williams & Wilkins:

These four realistic, highly interactive clinical simulations are based on nursing topics commonly seen in the medical-surgical nursing arena. Multimedia power including photographs, illustrations, graphics and sound complement the text. There is expert feedback for every option that provides rationale for both correct and incorrect responses. Included are print options for test results, reference listings, summaries and key learning points for learning reinforcement. A scoring feature is provided, and key terms in the text are hyper-linked to definitions from Stedman's Medical Dictionary. Windows compatible Unit 1: Management of the Diabetic Patient This simulation addresses nursing assessment and interventions for the client who presents with diabetes. The learner will review assessment parameters important to the care of the diabetic patient, describe interventions for managing hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia and evaluate a patient's discharge needs and implement appropriate follow-up. Unit 2: Ischemic Brain Attack This program presents information associated with early recognition and treatment of ischemic brain attack. The user will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of a brain attack; differentiate between hemorrhagic and ischemic brain attack; identify risk factors; perform a neurological assessment; discuss inclusion and exclusion criteria for the use of t-pa and identify appropriate interventions for the brain attacked victim. There is a focus on patient and family education throughout. [+]
Unit 3: Congestive Heart Failure/Myocardial Infarction This simulation involves a patient with congestive heart failure. The learner will make frequent assessments, monitoring the patient's cardiopulmonary status, urinary output, and efficacy of appropriate drug therapies. The learner will also have the chance to identify possible life-threatening arrhythmia, signs and symptoms of acute mi, and identify appropriate interventions in the treatment of chest pain leading to an acute mi. Psychosocial content such as noncompliance with diet and medications, as well as teaching strategies for a healthier life style are included. Unit 4: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease/Pneumonia This simulation focuses on the care of a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which progresses into nosocomial pneumonia. The simulation guides the learner through the pathophysiology of copd and the patient's presentation, focusing on signs and symptoms. Diagnostic and lab tests, as well as assessments and interventions are emphasized. The simulation requires the learner to use critical thinking skills when the patient's condition deteriorates. Treatment modalities include the need for airway management, use of arterial blood gases, chest x-rays, and pharmacological management. Patient education is emphasized, including coping mechanisms, medication compliance, exercise, hygie ne, understanding disease process, and nutrition.
