Review International Library of Sociology / Routledge:The International Library of Sociology (ILS) is the most important series of books on Sociology ever published. Founded in the 1940s by Karl Mannheim, the series became the forum for pioneering research and theory, marked by comparative approaches and analysis of new disciplines, such as the sociology of youth and culture. Spanning volumes by Parsons, Dickinson and Ossowski, the history of the ILS is the history of modern sociology. Containing classic pieces of social observation, social theory and empirical research, titles in this comprehensive series introduced the fundamental principles of sociology, explored the complex relationship between social and economic theory, discussed the constitutions and ideology of society and observed social interaction among many other subjects. Titles in the ILS witnessed the birth of Asian Studies, Industrial Relations and Business Studies as disciplines. Discussing subjects as wide-ranging as Japanese education to colour prejudice in South Africa, and youth detention to women's work and wages, this highly international and broad-ranging set of books contains key texts for students and researchers in sociology, political theory, history, geography, development and urban studies, psychology, education and social welfare.

Review Iran Political Diaries 1881-1965 14 Volume Set / Archive Editions Ltd:A key source work for modern Iranian history, this comprehensive series of British political reports provides an insight into the complexities and conflicts of Persian politics and closely reflects the changing nature of the relations between Britain and Persia revealing the extent of those mutual misunderstandings which sometimes made the relationship a difficult and sensitive one. In 1881, when the first of the diplomatic reports reproduced in this work was written, Persia was being ruled by its 4th successive Qajar Shah, Nasir al-Din. He had come to the throne in 1848 and his was to be the longest reign of that dynasty, brought to an end by an act of assassination in May 1896. When this series of volumes ends in 1965, the second Pahlavi Shah was still on the throne, but an important religious leader, Rouhalla Khomeini, was writing his first lectures on the theory of Islamic government.

Review Shanghai 18 Volume Set: Political and Economic Reports 1842-1943 / Archive Editions Ltd:The remarkable and durable institution of the International Settlement allowed the British to report in detail on political and economic matters in Shanghai and China. This collection of primary documents establishes a comprehensive series of despatches, in the main from the British consul in Shanghai to the British ambassador to China based usually in Peking, but in the 1930s based in Shanghai itself. The form and extent of communications vary during the period, and include annual reports and trade returns, judicial reviews, despatches on topics of interest and telegrams on urgent matters. After 1920 series of quarterly political reports and six-monthly intelligence summaries are initiated, and some other irregular periodic reports emerge. The collection of documents ends with the winding up of the Settlement under wartime Japanese occupation, and numerous papers in 1942 carry discussion of this conclusion.
