Review Theory of Stochastic Canonical Equations - Volumes I and II (MATHEMATICS AND ITS APPLICATIONS Volume 535) (Mathematics and Its Applications) / Springer:Theory of Stochastic Canonical Equations collects the major results of thirty years of the author's work in the creation of the theory of stochastic canonical equations. It is the first book to completely explore this theory and to provide the necessary tools for dealing with these equations. Included are limit phenomena of sequences of random matrices and the asymptotic properties of the eigenvalues of such matrices. The book is especially interesting since it gives readers a chance to study proofs written by the mathematician who discovered them. All fifty-nine canonical equations are derived and explored along with their applications in such diverse fields as probability and statistics, economics and finance, statistical physics, quantum mechanics, control theory, cryptography, and communications networks. Some of these equations were first published in Russian in 1988 in the book Spectral Theory of Random Matrices, published by Nauka Science, Moscow. An understanding of the structure of random eigenvalues and eigenvectors is central to random matrices and their applications. Random matrix analysis uses a broad spectrum of other parts of mathematics, linear algebra, geometry, analysis, statistical physics, combinatories, and so forth. In return, random matrix theory is one of the chief tools of modern statistics, to the extent that at times the interface between matrix analysis and statistics is notably blurred. Volume I of Theory of Stochastic Canonical Equations discusses the key canonical equations in advanced random matrix analysis. [+]
Volume II turns its attention to a broad discussion of some concrete examples of matrices. It contains in-depth discussion of modern, highly-specialized topics in matrix analysis, such as unitary random matrices and Jacoby random matrices. The book is intended for a variety of readers: students, engineers, statisticians, economists and others.

Review Broadband Wireless Communications: Transmission, Access and Services / Springer:Broadband Wireless Access is a highly challenging and fast changing area of multimedia radio communications. These papers on the subject are the proceedings of the 9th Tyrrhenian Workshop, held in Lerici, Italy, September 1997. They provide a prospect on the state of the art and future development, with a sufficiently wide focus to cover technological, architectural and regulatory issues. Emphasis is given to those advances of digital signal processing techniques, microwave mono lithic integrated circuits and smart antennae that will allow the design of low cost user terminals with advanced capabilities. Specific attention is also devoted to the protocols these new terminals will use to access the radio medium, and to the kind of services that will eventually be provided to the end-user in the future. With contributions from worldwide experts, the material presented here is a timely and high-level overview of the field, and as well as being informative is a useful tool for promoting further investigation into the area of multimedia radio communications.

Review System Development Auditor, First Edition / Elsevier Science:Please note this is a Short Discount publication. This major guide covers the fundamental task of auditing the system development life cycle [SDLC]. Computer Auditors have realised the major task is to prevent errors and negligence by participating in system development stages. This is a clear and detailed guide for auditors to objectively assess the effectiveness of system development and implement controls for maintaining data and system integrity. The guide is designed to provide audit and review programmes for each major phase and it assumes a large system which processes sensitive data. With more experience in dealing with SDLC auditing there is better information available now about how this job should be done. For the first time, this knowledge has been compiled in this definitive guide for EDP auditors, both internal and external. Areas covered in this guide include an ADLC that encompasses generally accepted phases, appropriate control criteria, detailed audit steps for assessing SDLC methods, audit checklist, tools and techniques. The audit role for each life cycle phase is supported by a full audit program and guidelines for reporting are discussed. The authors are all internationally recognized experts in the field of EDP auditing. [+]

Review Neural Networks in Robotics (The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science) / Springer:Neural Networks in Robotics is the first book to present an integrated view of both the application of artificial neural networks to robot control and the neuromuscular models from which robots were created. The behavior of biological systems provides both the inspiration and the challenge for robotics. The goal is to build robots which can emulate the ability of living organisms to integrate perceptual inputs smoothly with motor responses, even in the presence of novel stimuli and changes in the environment. The ability of living systems to learn and to adapt provides the standard against which robotic systems are judged. In order to emulate these abilities, a number of investigators have attempted to create robot controllers which are modelled on known processes in the brain and musculo-skeletal system. Several of these models are described in this book. On the other hand, connectionist (artificial neural network) formulations are attractive for the computation of inverse kinematics and dynamics of robots, because they can be trained for this purpose without explicit programming. Some of the computational advantages and problems of this approach are also presented. For any serious student of robotics, Neural Networks in Robotics provides an indispensable reference to the work of major researchers in the field. Similarly, since robotics is an outstanding application area for artificial neural networks, Neural Networks in Robotics is equally important to workers in connectionism and to students for sensormonitor control in living systems.

Review Dynamic Implementation of Sap R/3 / Addison-Wesley Pub (Sd):The implementation or upgrading of an SAP R/3 system is a complex and highly sophisticated process, in the course of which a number of challenges will inevitably be faced. Drawing on their extensive experience as SAP consultants, Marcus Geiss and Roland Soltysiak present a new dynamic implementation method which has been tested and proven to avoid the common pitfalls associated with the standard SAP procedural model. Over 16,000 SAP R/3 projects have been completed worldwide to date and the companies involved have had to overcome a considerable range of problems common to many large-scale software development or implementation projects: time delays, inflexible planning, non-fulfilment of requirements, dependency on external consulting firms and other associated hazards. Following the principles of the Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM), the authors explain how to overcome these problems via a requirements-based approach and a new procedural model which their experience has shown to be versatile, collaborative and, above all, highly effective. The book takes a step-by-step look at this model, detailing the specific activities which should be initiated at each phase and showing how best to execute them. It explains how the model works in an iterative and incremental way, building on essential cooperation between IT departments and user areas. Central to the whole cycle is the close attention to quality management and efficient use of the Computer Aided Test Tool (CATT) on individual modules and processes, thereby supporting integration and promoting reliability. The second half of the book consists of an in-depth real-world case study demonstrating the DSDM-based procedure model in practice. This section of the book can be studied with or without reference to the earlier theoretical material, depending on the reader's needs and interests. An invaluable guide for any professional working on the implementation or upgrading of an R/3 system, Dynamic Implementation of SAP R/3 should also be read by IT managers, business leaders and SAP consultants involved in such a project. [+]
Benefits of this book: SAP R/3 can be implemented according to a company's actual requirements Evolving requirements can be incorporated more smoothly SAP R/3 will be operational and profitable more quickly Training and consulting expenses are reduced SAP know-how remains within the company Maintenance time is cut Overall implementation costs are cut dramatically. About the authors: Marcus Geiss works on R/3 logistics and APO projects for Mummert + Partner in Europe. Dr Roland Soltysiak is an information manager with Henkel KGaA in Germany and part-time lecturer in software quality management and SAP at Duisburg University. Together, they are the original developers of the dynamic implementation model described in the book.
