Review The 2007-2012 Outlook for Computer Networking Equipment in India / ICON Group International, Inc.:

This study covers the latent demand outlook for computer networking equipment across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U. S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P. I. E. ) estimates are given across over 5,100 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. [+]
Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for computer networking equipment. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Review The 2007-2012 Outlook for Computer Networking Equipment in Greater China / ICON Group International, Inc.:

This study covers the latent demand outlook for computer networking equipment across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as “regions”). Latent demand (in millions of U. S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P. I. E. ) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of “economic population”, as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. [+]
For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e. g. in Beijing). Based on this “economic” definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city’s marketing and distribution value vis-à-vis others. This exercise is quite useful for persons setting up distribution centers or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each region and city of influence, latent demand estimates are created for computer networking equipment. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Review Case Study ZapNote: The Hartford ZapNote: Web Services Management Adoption at an Early Adopter / ZapThink, LLC:

The insurance industry is leading the economy in the adoption of Web Services and Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs), and The Hartford is an early adopter of these technologies among insurance companies. When it became necessary to update an agent tool that required integration to a heterogeneous collection of back-end systems, taking an SOA approach was a natural fit for them. The Hartford realized early in this project that they needed to acquire a Web Services management (WSM) solution, so they established formal selection criteria, invited several vendors to participate, and narrowed the selection down to two vendors. They then put those two vendors through an exhaustive, three-week proof-of-concept in order to determine which vendor would meet their needs. This case study details The Hartford’s selection process, and the criteria they used to make the selection. As an early adopter, The Hartford’s approach can serve as a useful lesson for companies in many industries considering a WSM solution.

In 2002, Samsung SDS implemented a strategy to become the regional leader in Web Services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) implementations, in spite of the fact that their customer base was largely unready for these emerging technologies. To this end, Samsung SDS built a core team focused on emerging Web Services and SOA technologies Web Services team with the necessary expertise to implement large-scale Web Services implementations, as well as architectural expertise. To date, Samsung SDS has implemented a number of successful Web Services projects, most of which are for sister companies within the Samsung Group—a strategy for building expertise and reference projects that has worked well for them in the past.

Review Accelerating Processing in an Event-Driven Service-Oriented Architecture Presentation / ZapThink, LLC:

Very high performance event-driven SOA is essential for building discoverable, loosely-coupled services which will meet the volume, transaction rate, and implementation cost threshold for real-time Web Services. Ron Schmelzer from ZapThink will discuss how four coupling models (request/reply, publish/subscribe, routed events, and reliable messaging) underpin event-driven SOA. Greg Brown, Director at Tarari, will show how hardware-accelerated Random Access XML (RAX) is used to dramatically increase sustained throughput and peak capacity of each of these coupling models while lowering deployment costs.

Review EDS: SOA as Strategic Offering for IT Outsourcer ZapNote / ZapThink, LLC:

EDS considers itself to be a long-term IT outsourcer and IT service provider, and places its Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) consulting work in that context. EDS leverages its deep knowledge of legacy systems to expand the solutions it can offer its outsourcing clients, and SOA is the best way to accomplish this goal. Because of EDS’s legacy expertise, much of their interest and active projects center on exposing legacy data and functionality within an SOA. EDS offers SOA enablement of existing legacy assets that in many instances they are maintaining for their clients. Fundamentally, EDS focuses on new technologies, products, and approaches that extend mainframe and other legacy systems to provide SOA capability.

ThoughtWorks is a midsize global IT consulting firm that offers custom software development, integration services, Web Services development, and enterprise architecture consulting. Rather than providing high-level business consulting, the company focuses its resources squarely on providing technology solutions to problems companies face. However, despite the seemingly narrow focus of the firm, the company offers true thought leadership, in particular in the area of distributed development using a global delivery model and agile methodologies, which both lowers their clients’ risk and helps them attract top-notch technical talent. Specifically, ThoughtWorks has completed several Web Services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) projects over the last few years, focusing on projects that involve legacy integration, leveraging their expertise with both the. NET and Java environments. ThoughtWorks’ technical depth, expertise with agile methodologies, and experience building SOA implementations positions them as a significant player in the SOA consulting marketplace.

Review Laszlo Systems: Rich Client Capabilities Based on Macromedia Flash ZapNote / ZapThink, LLC:

In the past, companies had to forego many of the user interface and productivity advantages that other distributed computing methods, such as traditional client/server applications, used to give them. Companies looking to implement rich client technologies across a heterogeneous IT infrastructure will be most interested in a new breed of solution focused specifically on providing rich user interaction across standards-based, loosely coupled distributed computing environments. This solution set is the class of rich client-focused technologies. Laszlo Systems has produced its own server-side offering called the Laszlo Presentation Server and XML-based development language called LZX to that provides rich client interaction and consumption of Web Services through the delivery of interactive Macromedia Flash SWF files to end-user clients.

Review Datapower XS40 XML Security Gateway: Comprehensive XML & Web Services Security on a Hardened Network Device ZapNote / ZapThink, LLC:

XML appliances have recently emerged as a category of network device that can address XML and Web Services security and performance issues that traditional network appliances cannot. To properly secure XML traffic, a device must operate on the content of the messages that pass through the network, and take appropriate action on parts of each message. Clearly, such content-based operations are resource intensive, which is the primary reason for solving such problems on dedicated hardware devices like the DataPower XS40 XML Gateway. DataPower’s XS40 appliance can handle a wide range of XML security, performance, transformation, and routing, functionality, all at wirespeed, in a security hardened appliance that requires little skill to install and administer.
