Review Intelligence beyond thought / Dada Center Publications:

This book is a beautiful illustration of a Spiritual Life as narrated through the real life experience of Dada Gavand. Dada is one of the very special spiritual men, who live Life simply and happily. Through a real LIfe story, Dada narrates the essential spiritual principles of Life, designed to keep one happy, whole and wise in one's own personal LIfe. The story weaves through Dada's ife in India and his spiritual discourses and teachings in the US and Canada. The essence of his message is that LIfe must be viewed from a totally different dimension- a dimension of "no Mind'. Intelligence derived through this exercise and way of Life helps one stay healthy, happy and complete in every way. All relationships find their way spontaneously and naturally and Man is therefore at ease with himself and his existence around the world. This book is a must for serious spiritual seekers who endeavor to improve the quality and content of their inner LIfe.

Review Rich Brother, Rich Sister: Two Remarkable Paths to Financial and Spiritual Happiness / Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged Lib Ed:

Together, then apart, then together again, as a brother and a sister discover the riches of life. Rich Brother Rich Sister combines the inspirational, true life stories of Robert Kiyosaki and his sister Emi Kiyosaki (Venerable Tenzin Kacho) into a book that will reaffirm your belief in the power of purpose, the importance of action, and the ability to overcome obstacles in a quest for a rich life. In 1962, the United States detonated an atomic bomb ten miles off the coast of Christmas Island in the South Pacific. From that moment, two people, born of the same parents into the same household with the same childhood experiences, found themselves on distinctly different paths toward God, money, and happiness. Robert became a world-famous entrepreneur, author, and teacher of all things financial. Emi became a highly devout Buddhist nun, author, and teacher of all things spiritual. Their lives took them from the Big Island of Hawaii to Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam, to the hippie communes in Haight-Ashbury and to a monastery in India, to private encounters with Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller, to a seat at the foot of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and ultimately back together again. Robert faced death in war, and Emi faced it in the form of cancer. [+]
They took risks, made mistakes, learned life’s lessons, and found their own truths. They discovered the peace, the happiness, and the wealth that come through living the lives they were meant to live, the way they were meant to live them. This book will inspire you along your own life’s journey as you search for your own truths, purpose, and path to wealth – both financial and spiritual – to achieve all the riches of life that were meant for you. and for us all.

Review John Murray / Ceaseless Turmoil: Diaries 1988-1992 Publication date: 2004-10-01
Dewey code: 720.92
Price: $27.50

Review Ceaseless Turmoil: Diaries 1988-1992 / John Murray:

In this penultimate volume, James Lees-Milne is as engaging and readable as ever; his sharpness and wit are undiminished as he forges into his eighties. He discusses architecture with the Prince of Wales and royal mistresses with Princess Michael of Kent. As the grand old man of country house conservation, he becomes a media celebrity, but he declines a C. B. E. and refuses to be photographed by Lord Snowdon. He reads in The Times of the death of the boy who seduced him at Eton, and publishes a novel about a German count who seduces first an English schoolboy, then the boy's mother. Candid, touching, penetrating and often hilariously funny, these diaries chronicle a way of life and a view of the world that are rapidly vanishing.

Review Angel At the Fence / Brilliance Audio on CD Unabridged Lib Ed:

While Herman Rosenblat was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp, a ten year old local girl would come to the fence and give him whatever food she had. They could have both been shot had they been discovered, but this act of kindness kept Herman alive as he struggled through the inhumane cruelty of his daily life. For months, every single day, the angel risked her life by continuing to sneak him what little food she could provide. After being liberated from the camps, Herman lived in London for five years. He was able to move to the United States in September 1950 and eventually relocated to New York. In 1957, while taking classes as an electrician at night and working during the day, a friend of Herman’s set him up on a blind date with a Polish girl. During the date, Herman made an amazing discovery…Roma, the girl who sat before him, was the same girl who had helped keep him alive 17 years earlier through the fence of the Nazi concentration camp. Within minutes he proposed, and six months later the two became husband and wife. They have been married for 49 years. This is their story of true love and courageous strength.

Review The Memoirs of Major Alexander Ramkins / IndyPublish.com:

Daniel Defoe (1659/1661-1731) was an English writer, journalist and spy, who gained enduring fame for his novel Robinson Crusoe (1719). Defoe is notable for being one of the earliest practitioners of the novel and helped popularise the genre in Britain. In some texts he is even referred to as one of the founders, if not the founder, of the English novel. A prolific and versatile writer, he wrote over five hundred books, pamphlets, and journals on various topics (including politics, crime, religion, marriage, psychology and the supernatural). He is also a pioneer of economic journalism. His most famous novel, Robinson Crusoe (1719), tells of a man's shipwreck on a desert island and his subsequent adventures. He also wrote Captain Singleton (1720), which portrays the redemptive power of one man's love for another; and Moll Flanders (1722), a picaresque first-person narration of the fall and eventual redemption of a lone woman in 17th century England.

Publication date: 2007-02-01
Dewey code: 920
List Price: $140.00
Price: $88.20

Review American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer / Blackstone Audio Inc.:

J. Robert Oppenheimer is one of the iconic figures of the twentieth century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb for his country in a time of war and who later found himself confronting the moral consequences of scientific progress. When he proposed international controls over atomic materials, opposed the development of the hydrogen bomb, and criticized plans for a nuclear war, his ideas were anathema to powerful advocates of a massive nuclear buildup during the anti-Communist hysteria of the early 1950s. They declared that Oppenheimer could not be trusted with America's nuclear secrets. In this magisterial biography twenty-five years in the making, the authors capture Oppenheimer's life and times, from his early career to his central role in the Cold War. In American Prometheus, Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin delve deep into J. Robert Oppenheimer's life and deliver a thorough and devastatingly sad biography of the man whose very name has come to represent the culmination of 20th century physics and the irrevocable soiling of science by governments eager to exploit its products. Rich in historical detail and personal narratives, the book paints a picture of Oppenheimer as both a controlling force and victim of the mechanisms of power. By the time the story reaches Oppenheimer's fateful Manhattan Project work, readers have been swept along much as the project's young physicists were by fate and enormous pressure. [+]
The authors allow the scientists to speak for themselves about their reactions to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, avoiding any sort of preacherly tone while revealing the utter, horrible ambiguity of the situation. For instance, Oppenheimer wrote in a letter to a friend, "The thing had to be done," then, "Circumstances are heavy with misgiving. " Many biographies of Oppenheimer end here, with the seeds of his later pacifism sown and the dangers of mixing science with politics clearly outlined. But Bird and Sherwin devote the second half of this hefty book to what happened to Oppenheimer after the bomb. For a short time, he was lionized as the ultimate patriot by a victorious nation, but things soured as the Cold War crept forward and anti-communist witchhunts focused paranoia and anti-Semitism onto Oppenheimer, destroying his career and disillusioning him about his life's work. Devastated by the atom bomb's legacy of fear, he became a vocal and passionate opponent of the Strangelovian madness that gripped the world because of the weapons he helped develop. Twenty-five years of research went into creating American Prometheus, and there has never been a more honest and complete biography of this tragic scientific giant. The many great ironies of Oppenheimer's life are revealed through the careful reconstruction of a wealth of records, conversations, and ideas, leaving the clearest picture yet of his life. -Therese Littleton.

Review Timothy Leary: An Experimental Life / Blackstone Audio Inc.:

To a generation in full revolt against any form of authority, "Tune in, turn on, drop out" became a mantra and its popularizer, Dr. Timothy Leary, a guru. A charismatic and brilliant psychologist, Leary became first intrigued and then obsessed by the effects of psychedelic drugs in the 1960s while teaching at Harvard, where he not only encouraged but instituted their experimental use among students and faculty. What began as research into human consciousness turned into a mission to alter consciousness itself. Leary transformed himself from serious social scientist into counterculture shaman, embodying the idealism and the hedonism of an age of revolutionary change. Timothy Leary is the first major biography of one of the most controversial figures in postwar America.

Review Felix Berezin: The Life and Death of the Mastermind of Supermathematics / World Scientific Publishing Company:

Felix Berezin was an outstanding Soviet mathematician who in the 1960s and 70s was the driving force behind the emergence of the branch of mathematics now known as supermathematics. The integral over the anticommuting Grassmann variables that he introduced in the 1960s laid the foundation for the path integral formulation of quantum field theory with fermions, the heart of modern supersymmetric field theories and superstrings. The Berezin integral is named for him, as is the closely related construction of the Berezinian, which may be regarded as the superanalog of the determinant. This book features a masterfully written memoir by Berezin s widow, Elena Karpel, who narrates a remarkable account of Berezin s life and his struggle for survival under the totalitarian Soviet regime. Supplemented with recollections by his close friends and colleagues, Berezin s accomplishments in mathematics, his novel ideas and breakthrough works, are reviewed in two articles written by Andrei Losev and Robert Minlos.
