Review U.S. Federal Government Business Process Outsourcing2004-2008 Forecast: Market Opportunity for Supply Chain Management / IDC Research:

This IDC study analyzes the market opportunity for business process outsourcing (BPO) for spare parts supply chain management (SCM). It also looks at lead logistics provider (LLP) opportunities associated with spare parts BPO. BPO in general, and spare parts supply chain management (SCM) in particular, is a growing opportunity within the federal government. Growth is expected to continue through 2008 and beyond, as more government agencies see the success of both Defense Department and civilian agency BPO efforts. "BPO for SCM of spare parts is a growth opportunity in the Defense Department, and the opportunity is quickly expanding to civilian agencies and to the state and local government market space," says Shawn P. McCarthy, program manager, U. S. IT Opportunity: Government and Education. "However, the market will be dominated by large vendors that have the resources to build and manage global supply chain systems. ".

Review Japan IT Services 2004 Vendor Profiles: Top Vendor Ranking / IDC Research:

This IDC study analyzes the competitive landscape of major IT service providers in the Japanese market. This study includes top IT service vendor ranking on a consolidated basis and the profiles of the top 8 vendors. Although company performance and infrastructure investment is on an upward swing, customers remain prudent in selecting IT investments. Competition among vendors in the IT services market continues to escalate. Two elements were glaring in companies' March 2004 financial reports: "unprofitable" and "demand for price-reduction", raising questions about the profitability of the service provision business. "It is imperative that vendors return to profit acquisition as a business basic, and that they strengthen their ability to innovate as well as their ability to make proposals that would lead to added value. A qualitative transformation in the traditional IT service business is called for," says Masami Kashiwagi, IT service senior market analyst, IDC Japan.

Review Japan CIO Survey 2005: IT Services Spending Trends / IDC Research:

This IDC study examines the results of IDC's CIO Survey, 2005 conducted in March 2005. As has been observed, the level of IT services spending in Japan significantly slowed down until 2003. However, IDC forecasts that the Japan IT services market will increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4% from 2005 to 2009 in line with corporate performance improvements. "To be able to respond quickly to market changes, corporate users are currently looking for solutions so as to maintain their internal IS and come up with IT strategies to fulfill their corporate objectives. Seamless coordination between corporate management and IT has, in fact, been gaining more importance than ever before. Under such circumstances, therefore, an increasing number of users are now looking for technology vendors who are more equipped with higher levels of consulting capabilities and more in-depth understanding of industry trends," says Masami Kashiwagi, services industry analyst, Consulting Services Research, IDC Japan.

Review Japan Server 2005-2009 Forecast and Second Half 2004 Vendor Shares / IDC Research:

This IDC study presents the 2H04 (July-December) Japan server market shipment analysis and 2005-2009 market size forecasts. The 2H04 Japan server market shrunk 3. 7% from the previous year to 333. 797 billion yen, marking negative growth for the eighth consecutive term. The growth rate decreased slightly from the -1. 8% in 1H04. Meanwhile, shipment increased 16. 1% from the previous year to 26,417 units, marking two-digit growth for the third consecutive term. "In 2H04, the Japan server market's pace of recovery slowed down. The demand for replacement mainframes had decreased. [+]
The x86 server market remained buoyant based on shipment. However, as the average unit price continues to fall, it is difficult for revenue to expand. Based on this situation, the market forecasts for 2005 and beyond have been revised. The 2005 Japan server market is expected to shrink 6. 7% to 653. 554 billion yen. The shipment is expected to increase 4. 3% from the previous year," observes Masahiro Nakamura, servers research manager, Japan Servers Research, IDC Japan.

Review Large IT Vendors Target the Western European SMB Market: An IDC Assessment / IDC Research:

The growth expected in SMBs' IT spending is attracting major IT vendors present in the Western European market. To better position their offering and win deals with small and medium businesses, hardware, software, and IT service vendors are, at various levels, reorganizing their go-to-market strategies by establishing dedicated sales and marketing teams, after-sale service personnel, setting up partnerships with local ISVs and system integrators, and developing ad-hoc solutions for the SMB market segment. This IDC study provides a description of the approach that major vendors such as Cisco, Dell, HP, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and SAP are adapting to establish a winning position in the SMB market. ''Western European SMBs are progressively becoming more IT-oriented and will continue to invest in IT at a faster pace in the medium to long term; the segment will hence not disappear from vendors' business strategies," said Laura Converso, senior research analyst with IDC's European Small and Medium Business service. "As large enterprises start spending again, vendors will redirect some of their attention to the corporate market, but will still push growth in the midmarket. ".

Review IDC Research / 2005 Hard Disk Drive Industry: Component Technologies and Business Models Publication date: 2005-07-01
List Price: $5,000.00
Price: $5,000.00

Review 2005 Hard Disk Drive Industry: Component Technologies and Business Models / IDC Research:

This IDC study is an update to a previous study of hard disk drive (HDD) component technologies and road maps and also contemplates the different business models being applied in the industry. Areal density (AD) has been the key HDD metric for the HDD industry for at least 25 years. Measured in terms of gigabits per square inch (Gb/in. 2), it is the product of track density in tracks per inch and linear bit density in bits per inch. AD growth has slowed in recent years, and the industry needs to refocus on growth. This IDC study examines the current status of component technologies in reference to 2002 Hard Disk Drive Component Technology: How Fast? How Far? How Much? (IDC #02C3325, May 2002) and current updates from industry experts. It discusses many of the HDD's components, with particular emphasis on heads, media, and recording methodologies that can grow AD. It also discusses the trends and transitions of the industry that will drive the adoption of the new technologies and lays out an updated component road map. The paper also addresses the impacts of these trends and transitions as well as the various business models in the industry and whether there are any significant advantages with a particular model. "The hard disk drive industry is looking at a period of sustained unit growth and a spike in components growth. [+]
How should HDD and components suppliers best position themselves to capitalize on the resulting opportunities?" — Dave Reinsel, IDC program director for Storage Research.

"Some of the key growth drivers in the region include the increase in digitized information, regulatory compliance issues, effects of globalization, and stiffer competition among enterprises in the region," she further adds.

Review Japan IT Services and Systems Integration 2004-2008 Forecast by Industry / IDC Research:

This IDC study presents analyses of Japan's IT services market and project-based systems integration (SI) market according to industry type. Their actual performances in 2003 and 2004–2008 forecasts, together with the trends in the main industries, are summarized based on assumptions during August 2004. Japan's IT services market, too, which was in low gear until 2003, has been gradually gaining strength with the economic recovery of the country. The forecast 2003–2008 compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the market is 3. 9%. "Some industries like financial, manufacturing, and distribution will grow at a rate exceeding the CAGR of the overall market. These industries have a strong interest in flexible IT infrastructures establishment, business efficiency improvement through outsourcing, and SI with companies in other industries. IT vendors are, therefore, advised to respond speedily to such needs," says Mimei Ito, senior market analyst, IT Services Research, IDC Japan.

List Price: $5,000.00
Price: $5,000.00

Review Japan IA-64 Server and x86-64 Server 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis / IDC Research:

This IDC study analyzes the impact of the x86-64 server's debut on the IA-64 server market, and explores the respective server's market opportunities and growth factors. Additionally, forecasts for the server product markets are also presented. In August 2004, Intel began shipment of the Xeon EM64T processor, which was announced in February 2004. This 64-bit processor–equipped x86-64 server started shipment in the Japan market in 3Q04. Thus, Intel's 64-bit processor–equipped servers now include two systems: the EPIC processor–equipped IA-64 server and the x86-64 server. According to IDC forecast, the x86 server market will see a rapid shift from the 32-bit processor–equipped x86-32 server to the x86-64 server from 2005. By end of 2006, shipment of x86-32 servers will cease. In this way, the x86-64 server will succeed the x86-32 server. Meanwhile, the IA-64 server will achieve a certain market scale as the platform for migrating from the RISC server. "The advantages of the x86-64 server, which is equipped with the x86-64 processor, are larger address space and high-speed double-precision computation, rather than reliability or scalability, which are the advantages of the traditional x86-32 server. [+]
Thus, it will have extremely limited impact on the IA-64 server market, which seeks to replace the RISC server market where high reliability and scalability are required," opines Masamichi Karasawa, senior analyst, Server, IDC Japan.

Review Asia/Pacific (Excluding Japan) DSL Equipment Market 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis / IDC Research:

This IDC study presents IDC's forecast for the digital subscriber line (DSL) network and customer premise equipment (CPE) market in Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) or APEJ covering the years 2003–2008. Key features include forecasts on DSL network lines and CPE units shipped, as well as revenue with qualitative analysis for 10 country markets — Australia, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, the People's Republic of China (PRC), Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. "The APEJ region is a world leader both in terms of DSL broadband subscribers and technology development," says Tim Crowley, research manager, IP Services, IDC Asia/Pacific. "DSL broadband subscribers have continued to grow and regional DSL service providers have met this demand by expanding network coverage. Further, the region remains the most competitive in the world on DSL equipment pricing, with regional players from Korea and the PRC effectively competing with other international vendors and pushing average selling prices lower in the region.
