Review Excimer Lasers (NATO Science Series E: (closed)) / Springer:

Among the many intense light sources, excimer lasers have a unique set of properties that place them at the forefront of tooling for material processing. Their extreme versatility means that they can be used in many areas of materials science and medicine. But three conditions need to be fulfilled in order that their versatility be truly appreciated and exploited: the characteristics and limitations of the sources must be known; the basic excimer laser processes should become reasonably widely known; and problems in search of a solution should be clearly identified. Excimer Lasers covers all three of these points in an instructive and logical way. Probably for the first time, both instrumental and fundamental aspects of excimer laser interaction with matter are presented side-by-side, with examples drawn from the widest range of materials. The articles gathered here are tutorial in their nature, thus making them suitable for a wide readership, from recent graduates and postgraduate students to those established scientists entering the field, all of whom could not find a better, nor more authoritative work with which to start their reading.

Review Photons and Non-Linear Optics / Routledge:

This book provides an introduction to quantum optics for experimental physicists and for college students who have studied quantum mechanics. Its distinguishing feature is its emphasis on multimode fields with correlating different-frequency modes, notably on their phenomenological description and on the practical methods of generating them. The phenomena described in this book provide an opportunity to study nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics and to master many important concepts of theoretical physics.

Review Laser Fundamentals: Part 1 (Landolt-Bornstein: Numerical Data and Functional Relationships in Science and Technology - New Series) / Springer:

The three volumes VIII/1A, B, C document the state of the art of "Laser Physics and Applications". Scientific trends and related technological aspects are considered by compiling results and conclusions from phenomenology, observation and experience. Reliable data, physical fundamentals and detailed references are presented. In the recent decades the laser beam source matured to a universal tool common to scientific research as well as to industrial use. Today a technical goal is the generation of optical power towards shorter wavelengths, shorter pulses and higher power for application in science and industry. Tailoring the optical energy in wavelength, space and time is a requirement for the investigation of laser-induced processes, i. e. excitation, non-linear amplification, storage of optical energy, etc. According to the actual trends in laser research and development, Vol. VIII/1 is split into three parts: Vol. [+]
VIII/1A with its two subvolumes 1A1 and 1A2 covers laser fundamentals, Vol. VIII/1B deals with laser systems and Vol. VIII/1C gives an overview on laser applications.

This directory gives concise, detailed profiles of principal European organisations involved in sensor technology. Each entry gives name and address information followed by an organisational profile and the range of activities in which the organisation is most involved. The expertise of the organisation is classified by nine industrial groupings including automotive, consumer products, process industries/mining/energy/utilities, manufacturing machinery, medicine/health care, HVAC/free control/security, military/aerospace, telecommunications/computers/office equipment and agriculture/pollution/water/seage/weather. The applications are then cross referenced against seven types of signal sensed including radiation, optical, electrical, magnetic, thermal, chemical and mechanical. Pan-European in scope all entries are in English. The invited list of entrants is compiled from primary sources including trade associations, Government ministries, academic institutions and the publisher's proprietary network of correspondents.

Review Super-Intense Laser-Atom Physics IV (NATO Science Partnership Sub-Series: 3:) / Springer:

Atoms in a strong radiation field are interesting objects. While, for a long time, first-order perturbation theory was adequate to explain low-intensity effects, the development of the pulsed laser has changed matters dramatically, allowing fields to be applied that have a large, or even dominant influence on atomic structure: super-intense fields. The term is actually quite difficult to define, however, and it has no absolute meaning. An atom in a radiation field can best be described in terms of the ratios of the quantities involved. In almost all cases, however, quiver motion is the dominant feature of all atomic physics in the super-intense regime. But this can result in a wide variety of phenomena, such as ionization, emission of radiation, exchange of excess photons with the field, double ionization, etc. All of these aspects are discussed in the present book, grouped under four main headings: Multiphoton ionization; Multielectron atoms; Hard radiation quanta; and Coherence and interference.

Review Handbook of Laser Technology and Applications (Three- Volume Set) (Vols 1-3) / Taylor & Francis:

The invention of the laser was one of the towering achievements of the twentieth century. At the opening of the twenty-first century we are witnessing the burgeoning of the myriad technical innovations to which that invention has led. The first of the three volumes comprises an introduction to the basic scientific principles of lasers, laser beams and non-linear optics. The second volume describes the mechanisms and operating characteristics of specific types of laser including crystalline solid - state lasers, semiconductor diode lasers, fibre lasers, gas lasers, chemical lasers, dye lasers and many others as well as detailing the optical and electronic components which tailor the laser's performance and beam delivery systems. The third volume is devoted to case studies of applications in a wide range of subjects including materials processing, optical measurement techniques, medicine, telecommunications, data storage, spectroscopy, earth sciences and astronomy, and plasma fusion research. This vast compendium of knowledge on laser science and technology is the work of over 130 international experts, many of whom are recognised as the world leaders in their respective fields. Whether the reader is engaged in the science, technology, industrial or medical applications of lasers or is researching the subject as a manager or investor in technical enterprises they cannot fail to be informed and enlightened by the wide range of information the Handbook supplies.
