Review Complete GAAP Library (2008) (2 Volume Set) / CCH, Inc.:

CCH's Complete GAAP Library comprises both GAAP Guide Level A and GAAP Guide Levels B, C, and D. Together, these volumes analyze authoritative GAAP literature contained in Levels A through D of the GAAP hierarchy, established by Statement on Auditing Standards No. 69, including FASB Statements and Interpretations; APB Opinions and Accounting Research Bulletins; FASB Technical Bulletins; AICPA Statements of Position; AICPA Industry Audit and Accounting Guides; consensus positions of the EITF; AICPA AcSEC Practice Bulletins; FASB and SEC staff announcements; FASB Implementation Guides; FASB Staff Positions, and more. In clear language, each pronouncement is discussed in a comprehensive format that makes it easy to understand and apply. Practical illustrations and examples demonstrate and clarify specific accounting principles. Accounting pronouncements are organized alphabetically by topic, and pronouncements covering the same subject are incorporated into a single chapter, so that the authoritative information is easily accessible. The Practice Pointers throughout this edition explicate, in plain English, how to apply the standards just discussed. Observations enrich the discussion by presenting interesting aspects of GAAP, such as conflicts within the authoritative literature. To facilitate research, both the GAAP Guide Level A and GAAP Guide Levels B, C, and D include extensive codification references to pertinent paragraphs of the original pronouncements. Material can be located several ways: the Cross-Reference shows the chapter in which a particular pronouncement is discussed; the Index provides a quick page reference; and the chapters' tables of contents list all topics covered and the page on which they begin. [+]
The GAAP Guide Level A and the GAAP Guide Levels B, C, and D both meet accounting industry standards overseen by the peer review system, and each contains a document covering the peer review of the book.

Review The 2007 Report on Multi-Web Laminated Rolls and Sheets of Paper-Paper and Film-Paper: World Market Segmentation by City / ICON Group International, Inc.:

This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a “borderless world”, cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e. g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market. In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. [+]
To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another. In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world\'s major cities for "multi-web laminated rolls and sheets of paper-paper and film-paper" for the year 2007. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. For many items, latent demand is clearly observable in sales, as in the case for food or housing items. Consider, however, the category "satellite launch vehicles". Clearly, there are no launch pads in most cities of the world. However, the core benefit of the vehicles (e. g. telecommunications, etc. ) is "consumed" by residents or industries within the world\'s cities. Without certain cities, in other words, the market for satellite launch vehicles would be lower for the world in general. One needs to allocate, therefore, a portion of the worldwide economic demand for launch vehicles to both regions and cities. This report takes the broader definition and considers, therefore, a city as a part of the global market.

Review IT Training - Market Report:

The UK market for IT training reached £661m at current prices in 2006. There has been a shift in emphasis from technical training to IT-user training, which has fuelled growth. Key Note estimates that, in 2007, the market will increase by a further 8%. A growing trend towards blended learning has started to lessen the gap that was previously identified between instructor-led and technology-based training, since both of these elements are now often requested in a training package. Other trends include the growing demand for one-to-one, tailored, on-premise training courses, and just-in-time, online training modules. The decision-making for IT training continues to become more centralised in company training departments. This, in turn, is continuing to lead to major companies consolidating their purchasing among a small number of training vendors. Larger vendors clearly have an advantage when bidding for such large contracts, particularly as major companies also seek to outsource all, or part, of their training management to vendors. Although the market remains fragmented, the leading 15 providers share almost 50% of the market by value. There are signs of consolidation in the industry in the form of acquisitions and partnerships, as players position themselves strategically in order to cater for the demands required by customers looking for a blended learning solution, and/or to outsource the management of their training. [+]
Between 2008 and 2012, steady growth is forecast to continue, with the market increasing by between 7. 4% and 8. 2% year-on-year. The major growth sectors of the market will be blended learning and managed services/outsourcing. At the same time, an increased drive by the Government to see the higher education sector play a greater role in the provision of advanced-level IT skills could start to change the dynamics of competition in the IT training market.

Review Work: Contexts and Consequences (SAGE Library in Business and Management) / Sage Publications Ltd:

Work has been changing. One reason it has been changing is that the contexts of work have been changing. Macroeconomic and societal conditions place limitations and expectations on what work should do; technologies alter what is possible; relations between employers and employees become more or less amicable. As work has changed, its consequences have also changed. Work: Contexts and Consequences brings together the most important and influential articles in the field which cover the long-term trends of the contexts and consequences of work at the beginning of the new millenium. The volumes span diverse topics and methodologies. The editors have scanned decades of literature to pick nearly 60 exemplars of excellent research and scholarship on Work. These offer insight into recent changes in the contexts of work, while also being extremely valuable as suggestions about how research might fruitfully go forward. The articles are arranged in two categories, each of which has several subtopics: articles in "Contexts of Work" look mainly at the situations in which work takes place, and articles on "Consequences of Work" ask what fruits come from work. Of course, these categories are inter-linked: the consequences of work depend on the contexts of work, and conversely, feedback paths make the contexts of work depend on the consequences of work. [+]
The Editors provide a clear path through these sections, enabling the reader to achieve a coherent understanding of what Work has come to be, and where it may be going. The SAGE Library in Business and Management is a first-class series of major works that brings together the most influential and field-defining articles, both classical and contemporary, in a number of key areas of research and inquiry in Business and Management. Each multi-volume set represents a collection of the essential published works collated from the foremost publications in the field by an Editor or Editorial Team of renowned international stature. They include a full introduction, presenting a rationale for the selection and mapping out the discipline’s past, present and likely future. This series is designed to be a ‘gold standard’ for university libraries throughout the world with a programme or interest in Business and Management Studies.

Review Accounting History (SAGE Library in Business and Management) / Sage Publications Ltd:

In the last twenty years accounting history literature has been enriched by the widened examination of historical events from different paradigmatic perspectives. These debates have typically pitted "traditional" historians against "critical" historians. The 47 articles in this three-volume set delineate the basic tenets of these rival paradigms. They include the work of prominent scholars from both camps. Volumes I and II reach across key managerial and financial accounting topics. Volume III draws together literature in which paradigmatic issues have been debated heatedly and those that have reflected a tendency towards consensus and joint venturing. (20050420).
