Review Canadian Financial Services IT Spending 2005-2009 Forecast / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights study examines annual IT spending for financial services firms in Canada between 2005 and 2009. It provides valuable insights, predictions, and guidance based on extensive demand- and supply-side data and the breadth and depth of Financial Insights and IDC's considerable industry expertise. The study examines the IT investment priorities and business drivers for Canadian financial services firms, the size of the IT market within the Canadian financial services sector, and the areas that present the greatest opportunities for IT product and services vendors. "Canadian financial services providers continue to spend more on IT products and services than any other vertical market in Canada," said Patricia Howell, senior analyst, Financial Insights' Canadian Financial Advisory Service. "While services continue to dominate spending in all segments, significant opportunities also exist in the software and hardware markets. Vendors that are in the most advantageous position to capture that spending are those that can provide vertical- and segment-specific solutions that address business pain points. ".

Review Business Transformation at Commonwealth Bank of Australia: Why "Which New Bank" Is Working / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights study discusses the achievements of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) in rolling out a comprehensive business transformation initiative tagged as "Which New Bank. " This study discusses the business needs that encouraged the initiative and mentions some benefits associated with the program. The study stresses that strong demands were imposed on technology, requiring the bank to develop an implementation strategy that carefully took into consideration the bank's technology needs. The bank's technology strategy fell neatly into the Which New Bank program. Michael Araneta, research manager for Financial Insights Asia/Pacific IT Benchmarking says, "The real test for Which New Bank may be in how the changes that it has introduced, and the subsequent benefits it has given, can be sustained as a new CEO takes over the bank. Still, CBA's Which New Bank program has already become a meaningful case study for banks across Asia. We recognize that the program has already provided the intended benefits of improved customer service and efficient processes. Banks that want to see the same benefits in their organizations will be keen to look very closely at how Which New Bank was articulated, rolled out, and implemented. ".

Review Effective Strategies for Buyer Influence: Building Awareness and Demand in the Storage Sector / IDC Research:

This IDC study provides insight to vendor marketers for better aligning their marketing investments to build effective brand awareness and influence. The growing mandate for solutions selling now requires that vendor marketers become better able to influence the senior managers that seek to address business issues, in addition to maintaining a proficiency in addressing technical issues and requirements. IDC finds that: Buyers perceive that the overall capability for IT vendors to solutions sell (i. e. , to understand the business problems for a company of their size and industry sector) is only adequate and needs to be improved. Overall, buyers perceive that the influence of professional organizations, peer referrals, and independently authored white papers are all more important than the influence of direct communications with the vendor sales representative. According to Richard Vancil, vice president of IDC's CMO Advisory Research program, "As IT buyers grow more sophisticated, tech marketers may face a growing ineffectiveness. The marketing efforts of tomorrow will need to be highly tailored for audience and be able to be monitored and recalibrated quickly. However, the marketing resource management practices of today — the budgeting processes and organizational structures, which are largely functional versus market-facing in orientation — may not facilitate this capability. ".

Review Top 10 Mobile Device Technology Trends for 2005 / IDC Research:

This IDC study looks at the top 10 mobile device technology trends for 2005, a year that will find the market between catalysts. Strong growth accelerators from 2001 through 2004, 2. 5G connectivity, color displays, and digital imaging are not expected to be enough to drive market growth in 2005. Meanwhile, the rise of 3G connectivity, multimedia, and location-based services is largely expected in 2006 and 2007. As a result, 2005 is expected to be a year for incremental improvements in handheld device and mobile phone technologies. Both handheld devices and mobile phones will become increasingly wireless capable and multimedia savvy during the year as decreasing component size and increasing component performance further blur the lines between mobile devices and consumer devices. "In 2005, mobile device vendors will gain competitive advantage based on their ability to excite the emotions and imaginations of consumers and enterprises. During the upcoming year, such excitement will stem in part from vendor ability to leverage the evolution of mobile device technologies, from form factors to displays, memory to wireless connectivity, and operating systems to input and imaging. " — Alex Slawsby, senior analyst, Mobile Devices.

Review China's Retail Payments Landscape / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights study examines the current state of retail payments in China and discusses the gradual emergence of a modern payments infrastructure. Significant attention has been given to China's financial sector and the state of its banks and brokerages. An area that has received relatively little attention, however, is the payment infrastructure. China is rapidly building out the various components of its retail payments ecosystem, including the POS network, credit cards, and electronic bill payment. These developments are crucial to the creation of a healthy consumer economy and will add a high degree of predictability to common transactions. "In many ways, China is still emerging from the equivalent of a payments dark age," notes Douglas A. Jaffe, associate director with Financial Insights' Asia/Pacific Banking Advisory Service. "And while this has caused its share of headaches, the country has the opportunity to embrace new technologies and avoid the legacy migration issues found in more mature markets. ".

List Price: $2,500.00

Review Results of the Financial Insights 2005 Consumer Payments Survey: Biller-Direct EBPP and Closed-Loop Gift Cards Top the List / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights study discusses the results of the January 2005 Financial Insights survey of nearly 1,000 adults to determine the adoption level of 11 new and emerging payment technologies, including electronic bill payment, stored-value cards, and contactless devices. In general, there was a broadening and deepening of usage; most technologies gained adherents. However, clear winners emerged in the data; single-merchant gift cards soared ahead to become a mainstream payment technology, with 60% of the survey respondents having used them in the previous three months. Online bill payment showed solid growth as well, although payment directly through the biller's Web site grew faster than payment through a bank or other independent site. However, many consumers relied on both methods, suggesting that the characteristics of a particular bill may determine which method is used. Other technologies, such as multimerchant stored-value cards, showed low or negative growth. This document contains detailed demographic analysis of usage and growth patterns, allowing more effective marketing plans. According to Aaron McPherson, research director, Payments, at Financial Insights, "Most of the opportunity for expansion of payment products in the next few years will come from broadening the marketing focus to underserved markets, such as the unbanked and part-time workers who are just now beginning to move from cash and check to electronic payments. ".

Review eTrading After the Gold Rush, Chapter 1: eTrading Is Dead, Long Live eTrading! / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights study examines how the etrading industry responded to the changes brought on by the dot-com crash in order to highlight how the technological platform has evolved to be aligned with the different business model and business processes. At the end of the 1990s, electronic online brokerage took the investment industry by storm, and a veritable gold rush started. Then, market hysteria about the investment possibilities of the Internet suddenly came to an end, and the market crashed in 2001. "On the ashes of the bubble burst, the online savings industry was born," says Simona Macellari, EMEA manager of research and consulting at Financial Insights. "Nowadays, the IT focus has switched from the transaction platform to front-end decision support solutions, and the issues of scalability, connectivity, real-time market data, and speed have been replaced by knowledge management systems integrated across many data sources as well as online and offline services covering financial planning, investment guidance, and financial education, all integrated with personal advice and support. However, even if it implies addressing different technology challenges, economies of scale and high price-performance capabilities remain critical. ".

Review Heading for Cross-Border Banking? / IDC Research:

This Financial Insights' study analyzes the current trends in mergers and acquisitions in Europe and focuses on the challenges of cross-border banking. Europe seems to be entering a new wave of cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Spurred by the creation of megabanks in the United States and Asia, European banks are looking at new targets in the region, which will give them membership in the "trillion-dollar club. " Financial Insights believes that many smaller banks will disappear, although there will be increasing niche opportunities as European banking becomes increasingly harmonized. Customer needs are converging, and increased mobility is creating new product and service opportunities. "The common European objective of achieving growth, be it through mergers and acquisitions, through cross-border banking, or in local markets, will drive a greater acceptance of cooperative arrangements between banking institutions and third-party providers," says Rachel Hunt, European Banking research manager. "In particular, sharing noncore operational costs with other banks will become increasingly the norm. ".

"In the current market environment, there is a trend toward continuously shrinking decision cycles where improved — faster, more accurate, insightful, and flexible — decision making commands a premium and serves as a basis for competitive advantage. Therefore organizations should begin moving toward deploying software solutions that support intelligent process automation. " — Dan Vesset, research director, Business Analytics Software.
