In 1906, a new kind of battleship slid into the water at Portsmount Naval Dockyard. Ships like the HMS Dreadnought ruled the world's sea for a generation. Dreadnoughts features die-cut, mounted counters: 70 "long" ship counters plus 20 standard half-inch counters. Articles, scenarios, and counters are provided for the Spanish Armada of the World War One era (including its projected but never built second- and third-generation dreadnoughts), the Ottoman Turkish navy, Austro-Hungarian building projects, and the saga of South America's dreadnought programs as well as the many attempts by other nations to purchase these ships. There are also new "advanced" tactical rules by Karl Laska, giving players the option to take a more detailed approach to combat.

Review R. Crumb's Carload of Comics: An Anthology of Choice Strips and Stories-1968-1976 / Kitchen Sink Press:

For better or worse-it depends who you're talking to-Robert Crumb's comics come barreling out of his acid-drenched id. Basic desires, racial stereotypes, and blinding rage are all poured into little panels. While that form of expression's not as novel (or liberating) as it once was, Crumb is still one of the 20th century's true American originals, and Carload O' Comics is an excellent overview of his work. This funny, grotesque book trots out all the old favories-Mr. Natural, the Snoid, Dale Steinberger Jewish Cowgirl, and of course, Crumb himself. Some strips are, um, gynecological, some are self-indulgent, and others are just plain weird. Crumb's a faithful mirror of his times: he depicts two guys smoking dope while floating down the river in a barrel-when else but the 1960s? Crumb may not be for kids, but he is funny in a way that a lot of his underground cronies never were. In this age of market studies and focus groups, Crumb oozes authenticity; he's an unrepentant nerdy pervert, but he's just being honest. Bless him for that, at least.

Review Batman Adventures: Mad Love / DC Comics:

Created by the producers of TVs animated Batman series, this is the story of how the Joker manipulated his psychiatrist into becoming Harley Quinn, his cunningly twisted sidekick. Created by the Emmy-Award winning producers of Batman: The Animated Series. The trend in superheroes of the late 1980s was dark, grim, gritty, and not very kid friendly. Then along came the animated Batman series. The visual style was totally unique: clean, sharp, and bold. Batman Adventures: Mad Love is an original comics story drawn in the style of the popular animated series. It's even put together by Paul Dini, a major force behind the animated show. This particular story involves Batman's old foe, the Joker, and Joker's cute but deadly sidekick, Harley Quinn. Actor Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame, who plays the voice of the Joker in the animated series, claims that this is one of his all-time favorite comics, calling it "bold, lusty, gleefully demented. ".
