Review International Bank Insolvencies:A Central Bank Perspective (International Banking, Finance and Economic Law, V. 12) / Springer:The globalization of the world economy poses significant challenges for policy makers, regulators and legal professionals. The Asian and Brazilian financial crises have shown that difficulties in the banking sectors of some economies can have serious repercussions across world financial markets. It is clear that a sound legal infrastructure is crucial to promote financial stability in this global market. Particularly in the case of international bank failures, the need for harmonized and effective international insolvency procedures is becoming increasingly apparent. It is against this background that the Bank for International Settlements organised a workshop on International Bank Insolvencies in the summer of 1998. This work presents the edited workshop papers by expert lawyers from over 20 national central banks, the European Central Bank, the Basle Committee on Banking Supervision and the UN Commission on International Trade Law. Nineteen country reports provide a comprehensive overview of central banks and other institutions responsible for banking supervision and the co-ordination between authorities involved in insolvency procedures. The authors further discuss the instruments employed for crisis prevention and resolution and issues arising in the aftermath of a bank failure in the respective jurisdictions. In addition, twelve expert papers discuss issues ranging from specific national experiences to attempts at co-operation and harmonisation at regional and international level. The book further includes in annex the text of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency and the EC Finality Directive.

Review Project Finance in Europe / John Wiley & Sons:The European Community has undergone profound changes in recent years, and the resulting impact in the business community has been irreversible, making it essential for the modern manager to be aware of the new opportunities and threats that now exist. Describing how the nature of financial options has altered due to these changes, this study examines areas such as new sources of project finance, the changing criteria of large project financing institutions, the most popular financing techniques and cross-border projects. It also looks at Russian privatization, emerging markets and the distribution of resources across the EC. It will assist managers in companies of any size to understand the nature of project financing in the new Europe, and therefore anticipate the requirements of project finance institutions.

Review Handbook of Fiscal Federalism / Edward Elgar Publishing:This major new Handbook addresses fiscal relations between different levels of government under the general rubric of 'fiscal federalism', providing a review of the latest literature as well as an invaluable guide for practitioners and policy makers seeking informed policy options. The contributors include leading lights in the field, many of whom have themselves made seminal contributions to the literature. Comprehensive and wide in coverage, the issues covered range from federal systems to other forms of intergovernmental relations, such as supra-national constructs - namely, the European Union - unitary states, regional systems, and more decentralized operations, including community level organizations. The political economy approach emphasizes the importance of institutional arrangements, including the legal, political and administrative aspects, and information flows to ensure that there are appropriate incentives and sanctions to generate good governance. This Handbook also devotes attention to emerging issues, such as environmental protection, the sharing of natural resources among levels of government, corruption and the impact of federalism and decentralization on national unity. It will be a vital reference tool for the area for many years to come.

Review Computational Finance And Its Applications II / WIT Press (UK):In the last two years, several major events have characterised the international financial markets. The most significant one was certainly the explosion of the price of commodities, in particular of oil, which has recently reached a level of 74 dollars. Analysts are now divided on where the markets will go next. Some argue that growth will continue, while others are warning that we could be already in the middle of a new stock market bubble. Computational systems have become increasingly important in many financial applications, such as trading strategy, risk management, derivatives pricing, and many others. At the same time, traditional financial techniques have been constantly improved and developed as a result of the increased power of modern computer systems. Featuring papers from the Second International Conference on Computational Finance and its Applications, the text includes papers focussed on the following areas: Financial service technologies in the 21st century; Advanced computing and simulation; Derivatives pricing; Forecasting, advanced computing and simulation; Market analysis, dynamics and simulation; Portfolio management and asset allocation; Risk management; Time series analysis and forecasting.
