Review Palgrave Macmillan / Bancassurance Publication date: 1998-12-15
Dewey code: 368
Price: $69.95

Review Bancassurance / Palgrave Macmillan:

Banking markets have experienced a general trend towards conglomeration in recent years, which has been facilitated by the deregulation of banks' activities. A particular feature of financial conglomeration has been the diversification of banks into insurance (especially life) activities-a phenomenon known as bancassurance. Many European banks have adopted bancassurance strategies but there has been little empirical evidence investigating the implications of this strategy for bank performance. This text aims to redress this imbalance by providing a comprehensive analysis of the development and market characteristics of the bancassurance phenomenon, as well as empirical evidence on the risk and return effects of bank diversification into the life insurance business.

Review The Law and Practice of Mergers & Acquisitions in the People's Republic of China / Oxford University Press, USA:

Mergers and acquisitions in China are becoming increasingly relevant to practitioners both in and outside of China as a secondary M&A market in China develops and as an increasing number of global M&A deals have a China component. In addition, there are increasing opportunities for private equity and other financial investors. In this new book, Seung Chong gives a full account of practical issues arising in mergers and acquisitions in China as well as providing substantive commentary on relevant legal principles. He draws together overarching issues such as transaction structure and process, merger control and government approvals while giving references to international practice throughout, resulting in a practice-oriented and extremely accessible text.

Review Palgrave Macmillan / Do World Bank and Imf Policies Work? Publication date: 1999-08-14
Dewey code: 332.15
Price: $85.00

Review Do World Bank and Imf Policies Work? / Palgrave Macmillan:

The term structural adjustment has been associated with rioting as angry and hungry masses protest food price increases due to subsidy cuts or to other structural adjustment conditions prescribed by the IMF and the World Bank. Structural adjustment and the neo-liberal paradigm that underlies it is now the dominant economics paradigm practiced by developing countries. The main purpose of the book is to rely on evidence and to go beyond rhetoric, ideology and anecdotes in assessing structural adjustment in Pakistan and the developing world more generally to examine how reform can be combined with pragmatism and social justice.
