Review Noise and Vibration of Electrical Machines (Studies in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / North Holland:Although the basic theory of the noise of electrical machines was elaborated many years ago, the theoretical knowledge has since been considerably extended. This book discusses the acoustics and noise-measuring systems of electrical machines. It is a fully revised English edition of the authors' book published in Hungarian. A detailed analysis is presented of the electromagnetical, mechanical and aerodynamical vibration and noise sources in electrical machines. A summary of the most recent developments in noise pollution is included, as well as the results of the authors' own observations regarding techniques of reducing the noise level of electrical machines and transformers. The vibro-acoustical measuring-technique of machines is discussed generally, both in the steady-state and transient mode of operation. In addition, the noise of transformers and high voltage transmission lines is examined, and the various practical and theoretical methods for noise and vibration reduction are demonstrated. Special attention has been devoted to those chapters dealing with the specific causes of noises generated by modern, electronically controlled machines. With international trade in mind, the book also provides a critical review of international standards on noise and vibration measurements and evaluation, and the newly developed methods currently being introduced. The book will provide both a theoretical and practical background to designers, planners, engineers, scientific workers, students and technicians involved in this field. [+]

Review Parameter Estimation, Condition Monitoring, and Diagnosis of Electrical Machines (Monographs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / Oxford University Press, USA:Condition monitoring of electrical machines and drive systems is a vital factor to achieve efficient and profitable operation of a large variety of industrial processes. Similarly, parameter estimation is important for the machine designer, and invaluable to the operator of modern drives implementing various types of controllers. It is also necessary to know the machine parameters for a number of simulation purposes. The chapters in this volume cover recent trends and advances in these and other areas, including sections on on-line and off-line parameter estimation of smooth-air-gap and salient-pole electrical machines, their diagnosis, and condition monitoring. New real-time monitoring devices, vibroacoustic techniques, and the symptoms and possible causes of failures of electrical machines are also discussed. In the book a unified and in-depth physical and mathematical analysis of the various parameter estimators and condition monitoring methods is presented. For this purpose, where possible, space phasor theory is utilized and the most recent and modern developments in the field are incorporated. The book is intended for academic and professional electrical engineers, and all those responsible for the performance, maintenance, and design of electrical machines and drive systems.

Review Vector Control of AC Machines (Monographs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / Oxford University Press, USA:Vector control has become a powerful and frequently adopted technique that permits the use of induction and synchronous machine drives for high-performance applications previously restricted to unwieldy d. c. drives. This book provides detailed discussion of the various forms of vector control of smooth-air-gap and salient-pole electrical machines supplied by impressed stator voltages, currents, or impressed rotary currents. It includes coverage of rotor oriented, rotor-flux oriented, stator-flux oriented, and magnetizing-flux oriented control. Other topics include the necessary decoupling circuits, the effects of non-ideal drives, and rotor speed and rotor resistance identification by means of model reference adaptive control theory. This is an ideal text for students and for anyone requiring in-depth coverage of space phasor and generalized electrical machine theories and the control of variable-speed a. c. drives.

Review Design of Brushless Permanent-Magnet Motors (Monographs in Electrical and Electronic Engineering) / Oxford University Press, USA:Brushless permanent-magnet motors provide simple, low maintenance, and easily controlled mechanical power. Written by two leading experts on the subject, this book offers the most comprehensive guide to the design and performance of brushless permanent-magnetic motors ever written. Topics range from electrical and magnetic design to materials and control. Throughout, the authors stress both practical and theoretical aspects of the subject, and relate the material to modern software-based techniques for design and analysis. As new magnetic materials and digital power control techniques continue to widen the scope of the applicability of such motors, the need for an authoritative overview of the subject becomes ever more urgent. Design of Brushless Permanent-Magnet Motors fits the bill and will be read by students and researchers in electric and electronic engineering.

Review Modern Electrical Drives (NATO SCIENCE SERIES: E Applied Sciences Volume 369) / Springer:Electrical drives lie at the heart of most industrial processes and make a major contribution to the comfort and high quality products we all take for granted. They provide the controller power needed at all levels, from megawatts in cement production to milliwatts in wrist watches. Other examples are legion, from the domestic kitchen to public utilities. The modern electrical drive is a complex item, comprising a controller, a static converter and an electrical motor. Some can be programmed by the user. Some can communicate with other drives. Semiconductor switches have improved, intelligent power modules have been introduced, all of which means that control techniques can be used now that were unimaginable a decade ago. Nor has the motor side stood still: high-energy permanent magnets, semiconductor switched reluctance motors, silicon micromotor technology, and soft magnetic materials produced by powder technology are all revolutionising the industry. But the electric drive is an enabling technology, so the revolution is rippling throughout the whole of industry.
