Review Klartext Zweite Ausgabe: Pt. 1 / Hodder Murray:Klartext is a two-part course taking the beginner through to GCSE German; it is particularly suitable for those taking German GCSE over a period of three years or less. It aims to provide a systematic, organized approach to assist rapid progress. Book 1 covers the basic ground and is an ideal text for the first stage of a GCSE course; Book 2 revisits key language structures, broadens the topic coverage and focuses closely on the skills and knowledge required for a good grade in the full German GCSE. The second edition of Klartext has been updated to take account of the Euro and all the assessment material has been revised in line with the revised style of testing in GCSE papers. Progress through the course follows two parallel strands: a systematic presentation of the major language structures in German, with each spread focusing on one specific grammar point, using examples in a lively context and practising the point through a series of interesting tasks; and a storyline which follows the lives and relationships of a group of German-speaking characters, which moves the course through the various topics specified for GCSE and ensures a good quality and quantity of cultural input.

Review Skeleton Hiccups / Turtleback Books Distributed by Demco Media:What is the best way to help a skeleton get over his bone-rattling, teeth-chattering, belly-laughing hiccups? Ghost tries to help, but none of the usual remedies work. But then a mirror gives him an idea. Skeletons are a little less scary when they have the hiccups. This particular skeleton can't seem to shake them-not in the shower (nice fuzzy bat slippers!), not while brushing his teeth (woops! there goes the bottom jaw!), not while polishing his bones, carving a pumpkin, raking leaves, or even when playing baseball with his friend Ghost. Ghost, instead of Boo-ing! away his buddy's hiccups right away as we might expect, advises Skeleton to hold his breath and eat some sugar and drink water upside down. When he finally does Boo! it still doesn't work. But when Ghost finds a mirror and holds it up to Skeleton's face, he sees his reflection and screams in fright! The hiccups jump away, hic, hic, hic. While it's novel to see a skeleton eating sugar, drinking water, showering, etc. , it may be tricky to find the right audience for this unusual picture book that's more about hiccups than Halloween.
