Review Multivariate Public Key Cryptosystems (Advances in Information Security) / Springer:

Multivariate public key cryptosystems (MPKC) is a fast-developing new area in cryptography. In the past 10 years, MPKC schemes have increasingly been seen as a possible alternative to number theoretic-based cryptosystems such as RSA, as they are generally more efficient in terms of computational effort. As quantum computers are developed, MPKC will become a necessary alternative. Multivariate Public Key Cryptosystems systematically presents the subject matter for a broad audience. The first chapter is an introduction to the basic ideas and early development of both multivariate public key cryptography and signature schemes. The next five chapters deal with the main families of multivariate schemes, and the concept of perturbation, the means by which the security of various schemes can be improved without much cost in efficiency. Each family is introduced in terms of the origin of the mathematical idea behind its construction, followed by generalizations and related attacks specific to that family. Generic attacks that apply to any family, in particular methods for solving systems of multivariate polynomial equations over a finite field, are addressed in Chapter 7, followed by a discussion in Chapter 8 of the future of MPKCs. Information security experts in industry can use the book as a guide for understanding what is needed to implement these cryptosystems for practical applications, and researchers in both computer science and mathematics will find it a good starting point for exploring this new field. It is also suitable as a textbook for advanced-level students. [+]
Written more from a computational perspective, the authors provide the necessary mathematical theory behind MPKC; students with some previous exposure to abstract algebra will be well-prepared to read and understand the material.

Review Interdomain Multicast Solutions Guide (Cisco Press Networking Technology Series.) / Cisco Press:

Demand is growing for Internet Protocol (IP) multicast services to extend applications across Internet service provider (ISP) network boundaries to a wider audience. To meet this need, sophisticated protocols such as Protocol Independent Multicast sparse mode (PIM-SM), Multiprotocol Border Gateway Protocol (MBGP), and Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP) are available in Cisco Internet Operating System (Cisco IOS(r)) software that provide solutions for successfully implementing native interdomain multicast service. Interdomain Multicast Solutions Guide is a complete, concise, solutions-based book that shows how to deploy IP multicast services. The book begins with a technology description that defines IP multicast and summarizes various methods of deploying multicast services. From there, readers are presented two distinct interdomain multicast solutions using MSDP and Source Specific Multicast (SSM), respectively. These two solutions feature complete design and implementation scenarios that reflect real-world applications. The appendix includes a command summary that describes all the IOS commands discussed in the book. Cisco IOS software is a feature-rich network operating system that runs on almost every platform and device that Cisco(r) offers. Cisco customers who use IOS documentation have requested more robust and more complete configuration examples to help in their day-to-day implementation of IOS. The Cisco Systems(r) IOS Documentation department has met that customer demand by creating a new documentation type called an integrated solutions document (ISD). [+]
ISDs provide concise design and application information, explaining how to integrate specific feature functionality within an existing network environment. By combining solutions-based ISDs with Cisco IOS configuration and command reference material, Interdomain Multicast Solutions Guide provides you with a complete interdomain multicast deployment guide. Learn from Cisco-tested and industry-proven solutions with configuration examplesExplore concise design and application information that details how to integrate specific IOS feature functionality within an existing network environmentIncorporate the solutions in a variety of service provider and enterprise networking environmentsRefer to command reference and configuration material essential to implementing interdomain multicastAssess the three stages of implementing multicast: establishing intradomain multicast, establishing interdomain multicast, and connecting customers to an ISP infrastructureUnderstand how SSM is in use in networks today and look ahead to how Internet Group Management Protocol version 3 (IGMPv3) will be utilized in the futureCisco Systems,(r) Inc. , is the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet. Cisco solutions, which include industry-leading publications from Cisco Press, educate and provide competitive advantage to customers through more efficient and timely exchange of information, leading to cost savings, process efficiencies, and closer business relationships. These solutions form the networking foundation for many organizations worldwide.

Review Visual and Multimedia Information Management (IFIP International Federation for Information Processing) / Springer:

Current research in Visual Database Systems can be characterized by scalability, multi-modality of interaction, and higher semantic levels of data. Visual interfaces that allow users to interact with large databases must scale to web and distributed applications. Interaction with databases must employ multiple and more diversified interaction modalities, such as speech and gesture, in addition to visual exploitation. Finally, the basic elements managed in modern databases are rapidly evolving, from text, images, sound, and video, to compositions and now annotations of these media, thus incorporating ever-higher levels and different facets of semantics. In addition to visual interfaces and multimedia databases, Visual and Multimedia Information Management includes research in the following areas: Speech and aural interfaces to databases; Visualization of web applications and database structure; Annotation and retrieval of image databases; Visual querying in geographical information systems; Video databases; and Virtual environment and modeling of complex shapes. Visual and Multimedia Information Management comprises the proceedings of the sixth International Conference on Visual Database Systems, which was sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP), and held in Brisbane, Australia, in May 2002. This volume will be essential for researchers in the field of management of visual and multimedia information, as well as for industrial practitioners concerned with building IT products for managing visual and multimedia information.

Review Clinical Data Mining in Practice-Based Research: Social Work in Hospital Settings (Social Work in Healthcare) (Social Work in Healthcare) / Routledge:

Design more effective social work programs with research data from your clinical files!A well-planned research program helps social workers provide consistent, effective services to their clients, but stretched budgets and tight schedules make it difficult to find the resources for data gathering. Clinical Data-Mining in Practice-Based Research shows how you can use the existing records already kept by every health-care institution as your primary data source. By analyzing documented clinical information, you can do groundbreaking research and custom-tailor programs to fit the specific needs of your department. Clinical Data-Mining in Practice-Based Research draws from the experiences of members of the Mount Sinai Department of Social Work staff. By analyzing case data, these professionals were able to identify biopsychosocial factors that affected social-health outcomes. These practice-based research strategies helped social work professionals see their own work more clearly and helped improve the quality of direct services, interventions, new programs, and case evaluations. Clinical Data-Mining in Practice-Based Research shows the benefits of practice-based research, including: enhancing clinical and administrative functions encouraging direct-service workers to become more reflective fostering cooperation between social workers and other staff members designing earlier, easier, and more effective interventions contributing to continuing education for staff members improving patient care and satisfactionThe detailed discussions in this book will help you apply these techniques toward improving your own service. Clinical Data-Mining in Practice-Based Research offers fresh and exciting ideas that can be applied in small health-care agencies or giant medical centers. It will become a trusted reference for administrators, social workers, researchers, and educators in the field.
