Review Geometrical Geodesy: Using Information and Computer Technology / Springer:The book has evolved through the author's 25 years of advising and writing on geodetic methods in which the aspect of learning by doing is stressed, including analyses of quality. Consequently, it covers practical aspects of geometrical geodesy and particulars of fundamental constants, horizontal and vertical datums, geoids, bi-axial ellipsoids and reference systems, units of frequencies and time, conformal projections, similarity transformations and spatial developments in electronic and acoustic positioning frames. The impact of information, communication and parallel computer technology with an ability to store and retrieve huge amounts of data is discussed up to the point where the compilation of relevant data is completely automated using comprehensive analyses on a worldwide distribution network. All Fortran computer subroutines described in the book can also be found on the enclosed CD-ROM, including compiled ready-to-run Fortran programs. A computer of modest capacity can cope with the algorithms.

Review Abstract Machine Models for Parallel and Distributed Computing (Concurrent Systems Engineering Series, 48) / Ios Pr Inc:Abstract Machine Models have played a profound though frequently unacknowledged role in the development of modern computing systems. They provide a precise definition of vital concepts, allow system complexity to be managed by providing appropriate views of the activity under consideration, enable reasoning about the correctness and quantitative performance of proposed problem solutions, and encourage communication through a common medium of expression. Abstract Models in Parallel and Distributed computing have a particularly important role in the development of contemporary systems, encapsulating and controlling an inherently high degree of complexity. The Parallel and Distributed computing communities have traditionally considered themselves to be separate. However, there is a significant contemporary interest in both of these communities in a common hardware model; a set of workstation-class machines connected by a high-performance network. The traditional Parallel/Distributed distinction therefore appears under threat.

Review Fuzzy Database Modeling / Physica-Verlag Heidelberg:Some recent fuzzy database modeling advances for the non-traditional applications are introduced in this book. The focus is on database models for modeling complex information and uncertainty at the conceptual, logical, physical design levels and from integrity constraints defined on the fuzzy relations. The database models addressed here are; the conceptual data models, including the ExIFO and ExIFO2 data models, the logical database models, including the extended NF2 database model, fuzzy object-oriented database model, and the fuzzy deductive object-oriented database model. Integrity constraints are defined on the fuzzy relations are also addressed. A continuing reason for the limited adoption of fuzzy database systems has been performance. There have been few efforts at defining physical structures that accomodate fuzzy information. A new access structure and data organization for fuzzy information is introduced in this book.

Review Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining: The Info-Fuzzy Network (IFN) Methodology (Massive Computing) / Springer:This book presents a unified approach to Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, termed IFN for Information Fuzzy Network. The IFN methodology handles a selection of the most relevant features, extraction of informative rules and patterns, and post-processing of the extracted knowledge. This book provides detailed descriptions of the IFN algorithms and discusses real-world case studies from several application domains including manufacturing, process engineering, health care, and education. In addition, the book describes the methodology of applications and compares the IFN performance to other data mining methods. Audience: This book is intended to be used by researchers in the field of information systems, engineering, computer science, statistics, and management who are searching for a unified theoretical approach to the knowledge discovery process. The book can also serve as a reference book for courses on data mining, machine learning, and databases.

Review Corporate Information With Sap-Eis: Building a Data Warehouse and a Mis - Application With in Sight (Efficient Business-computing) / Academic Press:The book is a real life-oriented, professional guide to developing a Management Information System (MIS). The book is professional in the sense that it addresses an MIS that encompasses all the hierarchical decisions-making levels within a corporation, and it emphasizes reliable, understandable and transparent information. The most important demand of an MIS is an easy-to-use-system interface, which needs to be coupled with an information infrastructure that takes marked conditions and the company’s particular business environment into account. The use of a modular and flexible system architecture is designed to maximize the system’s benefits to cost ratio. In addition to SAP-EIS, the book details how to use the inSight program (from the Duesseldorf-based company arcplan) to optimize system performance.
