Review Advanced Six Degrees of Freedom Aerospace Simulation and Analysis in C++ / Amer Inst of Aeronautics &:

The culmination of Dr. Zipfel’s renowned teaching tools is this multimedia CD on high fidelity aerospace simulations. If you have mastered his previous publications, or if you are a professional working in modeling and simulation, you will profit from this interactive training of advanced aerospace systems in C++. In 20 Labs you will learn the formulation of six degrees of freedom equations of motions over the rotating elliptical Earth. Study the aerodynamics, propulsion and flight controls of a hypersonic ascent vehicle. Insert a transfer vehicle into orbit, and release an interceptor that rendezvous with a space station or intercepts a satellite. You will use 17 progressively more complex simulations that model such advanced systems as INS, GPS with Kalman filter, star tracker, rendezvous and intercept guidance with phased array seeker. You will be rewarded with a sophisticated simulation for a three stage hypersonic vehicle with orbiting space station and ground tracking radar, as well as Matlab® m-files for flight controller design. This CD builds on two previously published self-study courses, entitled: Building Aerospace Simulations in C++and Fundamentals of Six Degrees of Freedom Aerospace Simulations and Analysis in FORTRAN and C++, and is anchored in the textbook Modeling and Simulation of Aerospace Vehicle Dynamics. You may picture yourself being in a classroom at the University of Florida with students who have used the same material to earn 3 graduate credits. [+]
All you need is this CD, the textbook, the Microsoft C++ 6 or 7 compiler, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. Use this CADAC web link CADAC web link to apply for a free CD with tailor-made plotting programs. The instructions come alive with 90 video and audio clips, and about 800 hyperlinks connecting the 619 training charts. A total of 150 hands-on exercises will help you explore the simulations and check your progress against the provided solutions. Once completed, you will have mastered most key components of advanced aerospace simulations.

Review The MIT Press / Mind as Motion: Explorations in the Dynamics of Cognition Publication date: 1995-10-16
Dewey code: 153
List Price: $100.00
Price: $284.95

Review Mind as Motion: Explorations in the Dynamics of Cognition / The MIT Press:

Mind as Motion is the first comprehensive presentation of the dynamical approach to cognition. It contains a representative sampling of original, current research on topics such as perception, motor control, speech and language, decision making, and development. Included are chapters by pioneers of the approach, as well as others applying the tools of dynamics to a wide range of new problems. Throughout, particular attention is paid to the philosophical foundations of this radical new research program. Cognitive science has traditionally been dominated by an AI-based computational paradigm in which cognition is taken to be the manipulation of internal symbols. Even as the potential of this paradigm continues to be explored, limitations are becoming increasingly apparent. Researchers throughout cognitive science have been casting around for alternative theoretical frameworks. Out of this flux has emerged the dynamical concept, according to which cognitive processes are the behavior of nonlinear dynamical systems and are best studied using the mathematics of dynamical modeling and dynamical systems theory. Mind as Motion provides a conceptual and historical overview of the dynamical approach, a tutorial introduction to dynamics for cognitive scientists, and a glossary covering the most frequently used terms. Each chapter includes an introduction by the editors, outlining its main ideas and placing it in context, and a guide to further reading. [+]

Review Multistrategy Learning (The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science) / Springer:

Most machine learning research has been concerned with the development of systems that implememnt one type of inference within a single representational paradigm. Such systems, which can be called monostrategy learning systems, include those for empirical induction of decision trees or rules, explanation-based generalization, neural net learning from examples, genetic algorithm-based learning, and others. Monostrategy learning systems can be very effective and useful if learning problems to which they are applied are sufficiently narrowly defined. Many real-world applications, however, pose learning problems that go beyond the capability of monostrategy learning methods. In view of this, recent years have witnessed a growing interest in developing multistrategy systems, which integrate two or more inference types and/or paradigms within one learning system. Such multistrategy systems take advantage of the complementarity of different inference types or representational mechanisms. Therefore, they have a potential to be more versatile and more powerful than monostrategy systems. On the other hand, due to their greater complexity, their development is significantly more difficult and represents a new great challenge to the machine learning community. Multistrategy Learning contains contributions characteristic of the current research in this area.

Review Materials for Optoelectronics (Electronic Materials: Science & Technology) / Springer:

Materials for Optoelectronics is the first book to offer a complete view of this subject area. It begins by describing the material needs defined by various optoelectronic functions. Basic aspects of the materials' specific properties are presented, including the relevant properties of semiconductors in terms of electron-photon interactions. Since the semiconductors for optoelectronics are generally based on alloys, the thermodynamic properties of interest are developed as well. Next, semiconductors for detection, emission and modulation are detailed. The fabrication of these materials is presented through a comparison and review of the epitaxial techniques. The III-V semiconductors for IR and visible light devices are presented. The II-VI family is also considered, with an emphasis on recent developments for visible light emission. A description of the status of silicon for optoelectronics is given as well. Finally, non-semiconductors for optoelectronics, namely optical fibers for telecommunications, electrooptic materials, and organic materials, are also presented. [+]
Materials for Optoelectronics is useful to materials and device engineers interested in increasing their knowledge of the potential and actual properties and uses of various materials. Students will also find this volume useful since it emphasizes the basic properties and needs for optoelectronics.
