This IDC study examines all semiconductor products that go into DVD players and recorders, and it forecasts the 2004–2008 worldwide revenue and bill-of-materials (BOM) costs for this market. Overall revenue will grow from $2. 4 billion to $3. 7 billion, and DVD recorder semiconductors will switch places with DVD player semiconductors as the primary market driver. "DVD player and recorder semiconductor revenue will grow steadily through the forecast period of 2004–2008, with a notable decline in DVD player semiconductor revenue and a significant ramp in DVD recorder revenue. DVD recorder semiconductor revenue will drive and support the DVD semiconductor revenue through this forecast period. " — IdaRose Sylvester, senior analyst, Semiconductors.

What are the key buyer and supplier trends that are impacting SaaS adoption today, and what forces will shape tomorrow? What are the not-to-be-missed opportunities? "There is no doubt that software as a service has become an undeniable force within the software industry that is leaving many to wonder what the future has in store," said Erin Traudt, research analyst for Software as a Service research at IDC. List Price: $4,500.00

Review U.S. Wireless Commercial Video and Television 2005-2009 Forecast and Analysis: Rise of the Third Screen / IDC Research:

This IDC study forecasts the U. S. wireless commercial video and television market for 2005–2009. Wireless commercial video and television, as distinct from the user-created video content market, has generated an astounding amount of interest — and hype — in the past year. From the launch of goTV and MobiTV on 2. 5G cellular networks, to Verizon Wireless' launch of VCAST on 3G, to the noncellular multicast/broadcast networks anticipated in late 2006, this highly complex market is sure to remain among the most dynamic and compelling services delivered to wireless subscribers and customers in the years ahead. Based on customer and subscriber survey data as well as in-depth discussions with key network operators, infrastructure providers, handset manufacturers, and content providers, this forecast assesses the demand for wireless commercial video and television services through 2009 in terms of several key metrics: subscribers and "à la carte" customers, consumption (based on total minutes consumed per year and per subscriber/customer), and revenue. Extensive trend analysis and a summary of current carrier offerings are included. "Although there are substantial challenges facing the commercial video and television marketplace from a network, handset, and content perspective, which will serve to keep penetration levels relatively low, we anticipate that annual revenue will still top the $3 billion mark by 2009," said Lewis Ward, senior research analyst in IDC's Wireless and Mobile Communications program. "With an ARPU approaching $10 per subscriber per month by that point, commercial video and television may well emerge as the single largest cell phone–oriented ARPU driver among consumers outside of voice. Review New Zealand IP Services and Equipment Industry Analysis, 2004 / IDC Research:

This IDC study provides an analysis of developments in the New Zealand IP Services and Equipment industry. The focus of this study is on the major vendors and service providers supplying IP communications equipment and services into small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and enterprises in New Zealand. The report consolidates new vendor product offerings into key themes and insights that have emerged in discussions with managers across the industry. These include the following: The way vendors are leveraging their respective strengths and backgrounds and managing alliances to approach the converged voice and data space Trends in product scaling into New Zealand's extensive SME market The movement towards Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) support across the industry "New product release strategies by vendors and the burgeoning types of IP services offered by providers are transforming the IP communications industry in New Zealand as suppliers rush to expand their offerings into the low pressure areas of greatest opportunity. Although issues such as security, reliability, and complexity remain to potentially impede demand, growth continues as driven by a renewed investment cycle and the strong total cost of ownership (TCO) business around expansive application functionality and the empowerment of human resources connected by converged IP networks," says Christopher Loh, senior analyst, Telecommunications, IDC New Zealand.

Review IT Budget Indicators: U.S. End-User Survey, 4Q04 / IDC Research:

This IDC study presents results from IDC's 4Q04 end-user survey of 1,110 U. S. organizations. Respondents were asked to identify IT spending plans in relation to budget increases for the coming 12 months, priority solution areas, drivers/inhibitors, infrastructure replacement/upgrades, and application-related activity. "The relative stability of the economy will ensure that IT budget increases are maintained during 2005, barring wild card factors that might derail this outlook. Large firms remain focused on infrastructure, security, and regulatory requirements and maintain some concentration on cost-cutting initiatives. SMBs, in contrast, are currently more driven by short-term and tactical factors relating to competitiveness, customer demand, and revenue generation, with some evidence of increased awareness of security and risk management. In both cases, there remains little appetite for visionary proposals with any threat of disruption or perceived risk. " — Stephen Minton, vice president, Worldwide IT Markets.

Review Worldwide Data Integration Software 2003 Vendor Analysis / IDC Research:

This IDC study focuses on the data integration market, which is one of the most interesting and volatile software markets today. Why? Knowledge is power. Data integration software facilitates the generation of knowledge by bringing together data from distributed, heterogeneous data sources to serve the processes that generate the knowledge. In doing so it: Provides an integrated view of data. Such a view may be in support of data usage beyond that governing the creation and maintenance of the data in its source. The primary business benefit is a unified view of organizational information for business analytics and decision making. Allows multiple applications to behave cooperatively and harmoniously. This is typically done using a messaging strategy whereby a consolidated resource queue publishes common messages to which consumers of the queue can subscribe. The primary business benefit is a higher level of customer service and improved operational efficiency. Achieves development efficiencies within IT shops. [+]
It does this by reducing the number of data sources with which the shops' staffs must be familiar for both new development and maintenance. An additional benefit would be faster development (i. e. , shorter project lengths). The market for data integration will always be with us, just as data will always be with us. Currently, this market is a collection of many niche players in such submarkets as extract, transform, and load (ETL); data replication; data quality; and data profiling. Through mergers and acquisitions, this collection of vendors is rapidly converging and coalescing into a smaller group of larger data integration vendors that are offering or plan to offer more complete solutions for data integration. At the moment, Informatica, Ascential and DataFlux are battling for the lead. Big vendors such as IBM, Oracle, and SAP are also interested in this market. "Data is fundamental and data volume worldwide continues to expand rapidly," said Steve McClure, a research vice president in IDC's Software Research Group. "The amount and types of data are proliferating rapidly. Almost every corporation in the world that has been in business for more than nine months needs to perform some form of data integration. To do it efficiently and effectively, companies will need to look at the products offered in this market. ".
