Review Western Europe Analog and Digital Copier Forecast and Analysis 2004-2008 / IDC Research:

This IDC study examines the Western European copier market and provides an insight into market activity, technology trends, pricing trends, and product and vendor advancements. The report includes digital copier unit value and average selling price (ASP) forecasts from 2004 to 2008 and digital copier review and market activity data for 2003. It also includes analog copier unit forecasts for 2004–2008 and analog copier review data for 2003 for unit sales. The total copier market reached 1,176,652 units in 2003, representing a decline of 2% on the 2002 total of 1,200,362. In value terms, the market declined by 10% with end-user revenue totaling $5,545 billion in 2003. This is the third year in succession that Western Europe has experienced a drop in the copier market, although the trend is for the decline to be less apparent after the 7% annual drop in units that was experienced in 2002. "As we are seeing are rapid transition to digital there is great opportunity for copier vendors and their channel partners to get closer to their customers and migrate the thoughts of their clients to see them as providers of more than just a copying machine," said Paul Withington, research manager, European Peripherals, IDC. The connection of the copier to the network is of paramount importance for the survival of players in this industry, as we are seeing copy volumes continue the downward spiral and the digital distribution and output of documents increase. " The document answers key questions such as: Which players led the field in 2003? When will the market finally transition to become totally digital? Which segments will demonstrate the strongest growth in this otherwise flat market?.
