Review Canadian Consulting and Integration Market Forecast and Analysis, 2005-2009 / IDC Research:

This study of the Canadian consulting and integration (C&I) market presents IDC Canada's preliminary forecast for the period 2005 to 2009 and discusses the key market drivers and trends reshaping this industry. Specifically, five-year forecasts are provided for business consulting, IT consulting, systems integration, network consulting & integration, and custom application development services. This study answers three primary questions: How did the Canadian consulting and integration services market fare in 2004? What can suppliers in the Canadian consulting and integration services market expect in 2005 and beyond? What actions does IDC recommend to its clients to successfully compete in the Canadian consulting and integration market? "IDC Canada believes that 2005 will show modest growth in the Canadian consulting and integration industry, which should continue until the end of the forecast period in 2009," says Nigel Wallis, Senior Analyst for Consulting & Integration Research at IDC Canada. "The consulting and integration market has substantially changed from a emphasis on revenue growth to a laser focus on maximizing business profitability – for both clients and vendors alike. ".

The business outsourcing services market continues to experience strong growth in Canada and represents a tremendous opportunity for vendors with the right mix of skills to address customer requirements. Each of the four business outsourcing markets examined by IDC Canada (HR, customer care, finance & accounting, procurement) are growing at high single digit rates (procurement even higher) over the 2005 to 2009 forecast period. "There are three "must haves" for vendors to achieve success in the business outsourcing market: process execution expertise, process support (managed services) capabilities, and IT/business consulting skills to effect organizational transformation, a key outcome for customers" says Jim Westcott, IDC Canada's application and business outsourcing services analyst.

Review Asia/Pacific Wireless Adoption 2004-2008 Forecast Update 1H04: Is this Happening in Asian Homes? / IDC Research:

This IDC study sizes, forecasts and analyzes the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) market for consumer WLAN equipment revenue, while examining the level of activity and dynamics of the consumer WLAN market in Australia, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, PRC, Singapore, Taiwan, and Thailand. This IDC study also offers a review of 1H03 and 1H04 periods, based on the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) Quarterly Wireless LAN Tracker data. "The growth of the overall WLAN market in Asia/Pacific slowed down in 1H04 with a 6. 8% increase over the same period a year ago. The uncertainty surrounding the announcement of the WAPI standard in PRC and the slowdown following a massive rollout of hotspot in Korea stifled the growth of the WLAN market in the region," says Claudio Checchia, research manager, Asia/Pacific Consumer Devices and Services, IDC Asia/Pacific. "While enterprise adoption of WLAN technology slowed down in the 1H04, growth in the Asia/Pacific market was fuelled by consumer adoption. The consumer WLAN market went from 20. 9% share in 1H03 to 36. 4% share in 1H04 of the total Asia/Pacific WLAN equipment revenue. PRC is expected to remain the largest consumer WLAN market in the region throughout the forecast period. [+]

Review U.S. Color Page Printer and Color Laser MFP 2004-2008 Forecast and Analysis by Format Size and Engine Type / IDC Research:

This IDC study quantifies the U. S. color page printer and color laser MFP market by format size and engine type. It contains IDC's review and forecast of this market for 1997–2008. Unit shipment, value of shipment, and average selling price information is presented. A 2003 year in review is provided with market shares for 2001, 2002, and 2003 by format and engine type for units and shipment value. Data for 1997–2003 is actual; data for 2004–2008 is projected. Key findings include: The U. S. color page market is the fastest growing segment of the U. [+]
S. printer market with a 2004–2008 CAGR of 17%, compared with the total printer market CAGR of -6%. The U. S. color laser MFP market is increasing at a rapid rate with a 2004–2008 CAGR of 35%. Growth is expected to come from higher color copier connect rates and substantially higher MFP activity from printer vendors. In addition, vendors are expected to increasingly emphasize the color office market opportunity while still maintaining their presence in the traditional print-for-pay and graphic arts color markets. The split between A3 and A4 devices has remained fairly stable and is expected to remain so throughout the forecast period. Multipass, once the dominant engine type, is expected to decline throughout the forecast period. Multipass became the minority of the color page printer market in 2002 and is expected to remain so throughout the forecast period. "Within the combined color page printer and color laser MFP market, the single-pass segment is the fastest growing, with a CAGR of 22%. Vendors are transitioning their product lines to single pass from multipass to take advantage of the speed advantages the single-pass engines have to offer. " — Alyson Frasco, director, Worldwide Hardcopy Trackers and Forecasts.

Review ALM Systems 2006-2011 Spending Forecast: Still Keeping to Its Pace / IDC Research:

In this report, we forecast the asset liability management (ALM) systems market from 2006 to 2011. ALM systems are a mature product set, with significant penetration across the financial services industry. These systems are designed to help institutions manage their interest rate, foreign exchange, liquidity, and liability exposures within defined risk and return targets. This decade overall has not been terribly kind to vendors of ALM systems, as the market is quite mature. In fact, of the risk types managed by financial institutions, interest rate risk has the most saturated technology market. And the general economic environment has had a downward impact on both technology budgets and the turnover of asset liability managers and treasurers among institutions. "The core or ALM practices, including earnings and balance sheet simulation, sensitivity analysis, and present and future valuation, have remained the same for many years now," states Debbie Williams, group vice president of the Capital Markets and Risk Management Group at Financial Insights, an IDC company. "But the needs of institutions continue to evolve as the regulatory environment shifts and pent-up demand is met through new functionality and capabilities, especially in areas such as alternative investments and enterprise-level balancing. Review Beware Aware? IDC Application and Form Factor Usage, 2004: Business Projector Survey / IDC Research:

This IDC study reveals the results of U. S. business respondents' feedback on questions regarding their projector usage and preferences. Our projector survey effort reveals a very comfortable user base that has become quite aware of the projector category as a whole and are also keeping an eye out for other display technologies to cross their paths. Some industries, more than others, move much more slowly in terms of technological adoption — education being primary — while some evolve as their client base's interests become more sophisticated, such as the banking and financial fields. With stunted application growth, along with good-enough performance, lowering ASPs, ever-lengthening life spans, and very low business individual unit assignment rates, the projector category is seemingly a recipe for eroding revenue and, ultimately, vendor consolidation. Add into the mix very compelling flat panel technology in PDP and LCD, and usage rates may drop for projectors in the future when ASPs for those two fall to reasonable levels. With all these factors, then, is the prognosis one of doom and gloom? No way, as lower prices and category maturity and stability can lead to wider unit adoption once more and more people become aware of a simple equation — huge picture at low costs. "Projector vendors as a whole should reap as much benefit out of the transition period now before flat panels emerge as a massive threat because volume manufacturing will produce more and more enticing price points for this already high-demand category. " — Eric Haruki, research manager, PC Displays and Projectors.
