Review Western Europe CRM Applications Forecast, 2004-2008 / IDC Research:This IDC study examines the customer relationship management (CRM) applications market in Western Europe for the period 20032008, with market growth forecasts, forecast assumptions, and vendor guidance. The $2. 1 billion Western European CRM applications market finally appears to be turning healthy with a predicted 2004 growth of 2%. The market is expected to grow to $2. 6 billion in 2008 with a 20042008 CAGR of 4. 6%. "Software-as-a-service CRM offerings represent a key growth driver. Software-as-a-service will broaden the overall CRM adoption, rather than steal users from traditional CRM solutions. This expansion of the CRM user base will much more than offset the lowered per-user price point of software-as-a-service solutions," said Bo Lykkegaard, senior research analyst, IDC European Software Group.

Review IDC Western European Camera Phone Forecast and Analysis, 2004-2009 / IDC Research:This IDC study presents IDC's 20052009 forecast for Western European camera phone shipments covering traditional mobile phones and converged devices. A review of 2004 performance is presented, including vendor and country analysis, followed by IDC's forecast, which examines future camera phone shipments by device type and resolution for the period 20052009. In addition, the market for dedicated digital cameras is briefly examined by way of a five-year shipment forecast by resolution and analysis relating to how convergence in the mobile phone space and end user dynamics in both markets is affecting the imaging competitive landscape. According to Geoff Blaber, research analyst, European Mobile Devices, "The integrated digital camera has become the most visible illustration to date regarding the progress of convergence in the mobile market. 2004 witnessed the proportion of handsets with integrated cameras grow to 70% of total Western European mobile phone shipments, from just 15% in 2003, illustrating the importance of imaging from high-end smart phones down to basic midrange and increasingly low-end mobile phones. IDC forecasts further positive growth between 2005 and 2009, as high-speed networks and technologies such as SIP and IMS maximize the role of the digital camera as mechanism central to rich content sharing across between IP enabled devices. Review Western European CRM Applications Forecast, 2005-2009 / IDC Research:This IDC study provides Western Europe CRM applications market forecast data by functional market and country. The 2004 base year is preliminary, since the final 2004 base year will be established in June 2005. The study also analyses drivers and inhibitors of the CRM applications market and offer advice on how vendors can address market opportunities. "The Western European CRM applications market is maturing rapidly, and IDC expects the annual market growth to be around 4% over the next five years. However, you can still find pockets of high growth in Western Europe. Hosted CRM is growing rapidly, and customer analytics, customer self-service, and vertical CRM applications are other examples of high growth areas. In terms of industries, financial services, telecommunications, and public sector continue to have enormous potential for replacing custom-developed CRM applications with packaged software," said Bo Lykkegaard, program manager, European Enterprise Applications.

Review Western European Security Software 2005-2009 Forecast / IDC Research:This IDC study presents this year's first look at how the Western European security software market performed in 2004, as well as the outlook for 2005 to 2009. A country forecast is included for the five-year period from 2005 to 2009 for the Western European security software market overall, and for each of the five segments of the market. Finally, guidance is offered on both market drivers and inhibitors as well as on appropriate strategies for taking advantage of future market growth. Ultimately, the data and analysis presented in this study provide valuable input not only to vendors competing in the European security software market, but also to those looking to gain a technology overview on the European security software landscape and its forthcoming challenges. "Security is at a crossroads. With heavy consolidation on the vendor side, more and more customers need to put their faith in big software enterprises that often lack security expertise and/or devotion. At the same time, the ever-changing threat is making life difficult for everybody involved in securing networks and individual machines. A constant race of updating one's systems, educating both users and management, complying with regulations, and making sense of presumptuous vendor marketing while facing stringent time and budget restrictions all lead to relatively poor security in most European enterprises," said Thomas Raschke, program manager of IDC's European Security Products and Strategies research. "Only a consolidated effort from all parties involved will turn the ship around and let us enjoy the fruits of 'elife' be that at home, in the office, or in between. ".

Review European IT Executive Market Watch, 3Q04 / IDC Research:"2004 saw a return to positive growth in IT spending in Western Europe, helped by the recovery in economic conditions," said Elsa Opitz, research analyst for IDC's EMEA IT Markets research. "International demand, growth in exports, and renewed optimism translated into gains for the IT industry. " Although confidence among Europeans was lower due to a high unemployment rate and low wage growth in 2004 compared to previous years, private and public consumers, along with households, drove the IT spending toward the end of the year. "This additional spending was aimed at increasing productivity at work and providing greater entertainment at home," said Zishan Mohammad, research analyst for IDC European IT Markets research.
