Anhui Province, often referred to as Wan, is situated in the north end of eastern China. The Yangtze River and the Huaihe River divided the province into three regions of Wannan, Jianghuai and Huaibei. South of the Yangtze lies Wannan, where one can find the Buddhist Mountain Mount Jiuhua, the Taoist mountain Mount Qiyun, and UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites-Mount Huangshan, Xidi and Hongcun Villages. The Hui Culture has engendered its own particular schools and genres and is an important component of Chinese culture.

Review Life on the Edge of the DMZ (Korean Studies) / University of Hawaii Press:

The author's now celebrated quest, through narrative and photography, to capture today's built and natural environment and way of life along the Min Tong Line (Demilitarized Zone - DMZ) separating the two Koreas, is both a stunning literary and photographic achievement. Supported by 150 colour photographs, this book by one of Korea's renowned photographers who is also a well-known peace activist, takes the reader from Chulwon in the east to Kosung in the west, interweaving profoundly felt philosophical reflections on a wide variety of political, social and other issues, with detailed observations about the places he visits, including their myths and legends. The sense of yearning for the reunification of his divided country pervades the text. "Life on the Edge of the DMZ" provides the Western reader with a rare and dynamic connection to an often forgotten aspect of life, albeit 'behind the scenes', in contemporary Korea, and will have wide relevance at many levels in the study of modern Korea.

Review The 2007 Import and Export Market for Blankets and Traveling Rugs in Pakistan / ICON Group International, Inc.:

On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on blankets and traveling rugs in Pakistan face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying blankets and traveling rugs to Pakistan? How important is Pakistan compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of blankets and traveling rugs vary from one country of origin to another in Pakistan? On the supply side, Pakistan also exports blankets and traveling rugs. Which countries receive the most exports from Pakistan? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for blankets and traveling rugs in Pakistan. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for blankets and traveling rugs for those countries serving Pakistan via exports, or supplying from Pakistan via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Pakistan fits into the world market for imported and exported blankets and traveling rugs. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Pakistan in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. [+]
This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Pakistan is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Pakistan compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes.

Review A Ride to India Across Persia And Baluchistan / IndyPublish.com:

A ride to remember as Harry de Windt, lecturer, author, Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and equestrian explorer par excellence, saddled up in 1890 and set off to examine the forgotten corners of Persia and Baluchistan. The resultant journey was literally one for the record books as the redoubtable Harry proved time and again that he wasn't going to be put off by a few minor inconveniences such as the weather, which ranged from an arctic storm in Persia that froze his cigar to his lips, to a howling desert wind in Baluchistan with temperatures nearing 120 degrees Fahrenheit!.

In 1878 a German named Overbeck and an Englishman named Dent travelled to North Borneo (now Sabah), announced to the locals that their rules, the Sultan of Brunei, had sold all trade rights in the region, and left a young man named William Pryor to "establish" the British North Borneo Company there.
