Review Visionaire #30: The Game - USA / Visionaire Pub:With a new theme and format for each new issue, Visionaire stretches the imagination and boundaries of what an art and fashion publication can be. Issue #30: The Game takes as its inspiration the Louis Vuitton Cup, the qualifying round of sailboat races for the America's Cup, and the first major competition of the new millennium. Mirroring the Cup's format of entrants from seven different countries, Visionaire assembled 'teams' of artists, photographers, and image makers to represent each of the Cup's participating countries. Accordingly there are seven different versions of this issue, one per country. She and fashion photographer Glenn Luchford thus began an artistic collaboration that captures the full range of color, tonality, and topography of live flesh, in large photographic tableaux that portray Saville's own body. Distortions confront and coerce the viewer into an examination of his or her own body and the grotesqueries and beauties inherent within; the images likewise recall biological specimens preserved, disembodied, and disfigured. The collusion of the art and fashion worlds has produced many hybrids in recent years, yet none perhaps none as intensely striking as this series.
