The irrepressible mouse heroine of Chester's Way and Julius, the Baby of the World returns for another true-to-life and very funny episode. Lilly loves everything about school, especially her teacher, Mr. Slinger-until he takes away her musical purse because she can't stop playing with it in class. Lilly decides to get revenge with a nasty drawing of "Big Fat Mean Mr. Stealing Teacher!" but when she finds the kind note he put in her purse, she's filled with remorse and has to find a way to make things right again. Children will sympathize with Lilly's impulsive mistake and laugh uproariously at the witty and expressive pictures of the very human mice. In a starred review, Publisher's Weekly called this book "sympathetic and wise. " (Ages 4 to 8).

Review Little songs (Mrs. Follen's twilight stories) / A. Whittemore & Co:Eliza Lee Follen (1787-1860), nee Cabot was an American author. She was the daughter of one of Boston's most prominent families. In 1830, she married Charles Follen, a German poet who moved to the United States in 1824. The Follens had a house built on the corner of Follen Street in Cambridge. Their family Christmas tree attracted the attention of the English writer Harriet Martineau during her long visit to the United States, and the Follens have been claimed by some as the first to introduce the German custom of decorated Christmas tree to the United States. In 1841, she published a five-volume collection of her husband's papers and a biography. Her other works include: Hymns for Children (1825), Little Songs (1833), Poems (1839) and Hymns, Songs and Fables for Young People (1846).

Review I Can Draw It Myself by Me, Myself (Coloring Book) / Random House Books for Young Readers:A reissue of Dr. Seuss's oversized creative coloring book that also teaches simple reading skills. Full color. "Dr. Seuss didn't finish this picture of Fred. So I helped him out; and I drew Fred a head," begins this delightful coloring book, in which young illustrators follow simple rhyming instructions to fill in the missing elements of the picture. Children will enjoy coloring in legs for the Sneggs (a typically whimsical Seuss creature with a long body, fur, and stripes), a Blue Hoo-Fish for fisherman Gish, and the front of a Hamika-Snamika-Bamika-Bunt-no easy stunt! The crowning achievement is a drawing of one's own "Big Something," framed importantly in gold: "Big Somethings aren't easy. / They're hard for a kid. / But I can draw one by myself. / And I did!" These 20 pages of full-color but incomplete quirky drawings will inspire fun, creative pictures from your favorite budding artist, and the short verses help teach reading skills. [+]
