Review Raymond Pettibon: The Books 1978-1998 / Distributed Art Publishers (DAP):For over twenty years, Raymond Pettibon's drawings have earned an international following for their fluid style and youthful, iconoclastic outlook. His work is acclaimed for its wit and erudite eccentricities, and reveals an affinity for a diverse group of authors-from Baudelaire to Henry James to Mickey Spillane-whose quotations abound in the drawings. This volume is a catalogue raisonn of his artist books produced between 1978 and 1998, many of which are now extremely rare and highly collected in both the art world and underground music circles. Popularized at first by small independent music labels and publishers, these booklets and zines were originally available only in very small print runs-editions sizes ranged from 30 to 150 copies, where Pettibon's rough yet cultivated style became synonymous with the late 70s and 80s underground aesthetic. Presenting over a hundred of Pettibon's publications-32 printed in their entirety-this new paperback edition is an important look at the development of one of the most significant artists of the last quarter century.

Review INSTRUCTION MANUAL #2 (One Picture Book #3) / Nazraeli Pr:Artist Book. The third title in the now-legendary "One Picture Book" Series by Nazraeli Press, one of the most superb ongoing projects of contemporary art photography. Limited Edition of 500 numbered and signed copies. Accompanied by one tipped-in, original print by the artist/photographer (hence the Series' name). An elegant production: Small-size volume format. Titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Terri Weifenbach. The details, reproduced in offset color, function as emotional operating instructions for viewing the photographs from which they were taken. The Type C print is archivally processed. Weifenbachs minimalist images of sky and ground recall the abstract rectangles of Mark Rothko. [+]
Other images are more intricate, infused with an assortment of blaring reds and mellower greens and beiges. In all, harsher angles are buffered, making ordinary material appear unexpectedly lyrical (ARTNews). Another triumphant achievement from the delicate genius of Weifenbach. 12 color plates, 1 original print. One of the finest American artist/photographers of the 21st century.
