Review Lee Krasner / Harry N. Abrams:Lee Krasner was one of the central figures in twentieth century American art, but as the wife of famed abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollack, she was often hidden in the long shadow cast by her husband. Every known example of her work is listed here-some 600 works in oil, collage, mosaic, and on paper-including its exhibition history, provenance, and title changes. Nearly every work is illustrated, and there are 267 plates in full color in this long-awaited reference on one of our most important artists, and one of the few such studies ever devoted to a female artist. Ellen Landau, a professor in the Case Western Reserve University/Cleveland Museum of Art Joint Program in Art History, is also the author of a monograph on Pollack.

Review Michael Kenny / Scolar Press:Michael Kenny is a sculptor and a painter, a prolific draughtsman and a print-maker. His early sculptures are dramatic, dealing with the isolation and loneliness of the individual. In more recent years, he has worked mainly in stone in a quest for a sculpture that is simple in form and rich in meaning. With over 60 illustrations and key excerpts from the sculptor's own notebooks, this book provides an opportunity to examine in detail the progress of Michael Kenny's career. Peter Davies traces his development from art school in Liverpool during the 1960s to the late 1990s. This account covers his work in all media and elucidates the relationship between the artist's drawing and sculpture. The limited edition of 36 copies includes a lithograph, signed and numbered by the artist.

Review Albrecht Durer: Die Apokalypse, the Apocalypse / Prestel:Presented in a folder and ornamental slipcase are 32 pages of woodprints series from Durer's "Apocalypse", and an accompanying volume. This series was originally published in 1498 in German and Latin making Albert Durer (1471-1528) known in Europe almost over night. As early as 1511 a second edition followed in book form. Pictures on 15 large woodprints tell of the horror of the last days and the beginning of the kingdom of God as described in the Revelation of St John the Divine. Published shortly before the turn of the 1500s it had a special meaning to the people as the visions were thought to be prophesies of the advancing last days.

Review Boldini: Catalogo Ragionato 1842-1931 (In Italian) (Italian Edition) / Umberto Allemandi:Three sections are divided in four volumes which form this catalogue raisonn,. The major part of the correspondence is previously unpublished, the biographical data is the result of new, in-depth archive research, while the critical study of Boldini s artistic career runs from his debut in Ferrara to the vicissitudes shared with Macchiaioli, from the first Parisian years to the familiarity with Degas and the Impressionists, and his friendship with Helleu and Sargent. Over 1500 works are illustrated including oils, pastels, watercolours, drawings, which are all systematically annotated. They are testimony to the restless activity and high quality of a strongly individual artist, who was able to win universal fame as a sought-after portrait painter, through his celebrated masterpieces such as the portrait in pastels of Giuseppe Verdi, the celebrated Pastello bianco , the portrait of Whistler, of Montesquieu, the portrait of Marquise Casati and numerous other 'persona' of the Belle E poque.
